Who's running their 9mm suppressor on a 357/38 rifle with subs?
What is your set-up and how is it working out for you?
Any tips or tricks I should know up front?

20" Rossi 92 in 357/38
I use my Osprey, Octane, and HTA Guardian on it at times.

Piece of advise: Never leave the thing uncleaned, that bluing will turn a finger print into rust in no time, get it cerakoted if you get the chance.

Used a Isis, Trident and Octane on a 10" 77/357 with no problems. Used with full power ammo in the Octane hd as well. Octane is on it full time now.

I posted bail on a Mystic, now awaiting release.
I will use it on a 16" 77/357 and a 10" T/C bull barrel pistol.
Sadly the Mystic X came out after my purchase so no 357maxi.

Mystic on a .38/357 Handi Rifle cut to 16".
With 38 wadcutters I could shoot it inside a library full of Nuns and I wouldn't even get a warning.

That's what I wanted to hear (or not hear). I'm cutting a Handi-Rifle at 16 as well, but with an AAC TiRant 9.goloud wrote:Mystic on a .38/357 Handi Rifle cut to 16".

Anyone using heavier than standard for caliber bullets? Like 200gr or better?

Im using 190 cast with 4.2gr Tite group, works really well. I have used heavier but the 190's are cheap.

Re: 9mm pistol cans on 357/38 rifles; who's doing it?
When I had a Gemtech Trident I put it on a 16" Handi rifle. It worked GREAT with some remanufactured 38 wadcutters I was getting cheap at a local store. I never tried any 357 loads because I wasn't confident putting magnums through that can. I think something like a CAC9 would be fine with Magnums, but the Gemtech was a pretty small can so I never wanted to push the limits of ballistic capability. I just used the gun for fun. Any time I took it shooting with groups of people, it was the most popular gun of the day no matter what anybody else brought. It was insanely quiet and the 38s would tip bowling pins over well enough or send a soup can flying.
Re: 9mm pistol cans on 357/38 rifles; who's doing it?
I do it with a lever gun, Marlin/Trident. I tried to use heavier bullets (200gr), but they ended up being too long to cycle in a lever gun. So I stick with 158gr subs now,,,
Re: 9mm pistol cans on 357/38 rifles; who's doing it?
Sure - I run .357 / .38 subs on a 6" rifle.

I've shot goloud's and John_E's setup (very similar) and they're stupid quiet.goloud wrote:Mystic on a .38/357 Handi Rifle cut to 16".

We need to have another meeting of the NFA anonymous club soon.

I am! 38's only. Sounds like a quiet pellet gun!
The bullets thump the back stop and that's louder than the report!

Re: 9mm pistol cans on 357/38 rifles; who's doing it?
any particular reason ya'll went with the 38/357 w/ 9mm can vs. a 44special/mag with a 45 can?
I'm about to get a 45 can and have been looking at getting my 96/44 (ruger lever action 44mag, same basic idea as the 77/44) threaded but I've seen some going with the 357/9mm route recently.
I was thinking the ideal setup would be throwing the heaviest bullet you can downrange and keeping it subsonic. I've got molds to make 300gr bullets for the 44 and that should make a good thump downrange. Plus I have the 96/44 and lots of brass and powder. I do have a couple of 38/357 levers though, so if that's better I can always go in that direction..

Re: 9mm pistol cans on 357/38 rifles; who's doing it?
I went with the 357mag because we already owned the rifles, have been reloading for it for over 20yrs, have at least 5 molds to cast for it, and I believe it will shoot a little flatter than the 44.
Now if I coult grab a Ruger 45 Long Colt bolt action 77/45LC I would change, maybe.

Re: 9mm pistol cans on 357/38 rifles; who's doing it?
I did both. .357 is a bit quieter, but a 300gr .44 mag bullet hits harder,,,
Re: 9mm pistol cans on 357/38 rifles; who's doing it?
Well, I went with both and I really love both. I like the 38/357(Rossi m92) for cheaper subsonic ammunition, but I prefer the 77/44 for hunting. That said even when both are out the 77/44 steals the show and I believe that is because it has such a deep tone that people tend to think of it as quieter.SpeedyR wrote:any particular reason ya'll went with the 38/357 w/ 9mm can vs. a 44special/mag with a 45 can?

Dry with 158gr 38spl my Rossi shoots around 123db @ 1m from muzzle (strangely enough it actually gets louder wet and can barely push all the water out of the can, I assume due to insanely low muzzle pressure)
Wet with 250gr 44spl my 77/44 does about 124db @ 1m from muzzle
Dry my 77/44 does about 127db @ 1m from muzzle
