Awesome fast ATF return times !!!

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

eFile is not available for form 4's at the moment, but efile Form 1's are about a month wait.

I efiled a form 4 when it was up, took 5 months and a day. Paper filed two cans recently, both came back under 4 months. Efiled a form 1, 32 days.

Are the data points on the NFATracker chart bogus?

If you sort the data points by "Efile" "Trust Form 4", it shows a glut of points between December 2013 and April 2014, then it drops off but there is a steady trickle from August of 2014 through current times.

Are 'they' allowing a limited number of FFL's use the eFile system for trust/Form 4s?

No one can file a new eForms Form 4. Any approvals showing are remnants from already submitted form or drafts in the system entered before April 2104...

Man, I think I'd be pretty annoyed if I submitted paperwork prior to April 2014, and the ATF was just getting around to cashing the check now! (At least per the graph notes, the x-axis is the date the check was cashed, not approval dates, which is surprising since ATF has a reputation for cashing the checks fairly quickly)

Hard to tell now. I've heard a lot of people post fake times, just to screw with people.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I stopped using NFA tracker, because alot of the users are idiots who don't know how to fill in the boxes...they'll say the check was cashed on 2/23/14 and their form went pending 3/16/15...

The pending date is set back to the date your check was cashed, so the dates should be the same!

Anyway, my last F4 went 87 days pending to approved. Then it took 17 days for the stamp to arrive. I'm convinced some examiners sit on the forms after they approve them.

Not lately. I'm just about the 60 day threshold for approval. The first F1 was 36 days.

Incorrect. Check is cashed and then forms forwarded to nfa branch in martinsburg.

But by using your check cashed date, it's easier to predict approximate approval time frame...

I had two SBR form 1's approved in three weeks late last year. I e-filed two form 1's for cans back on 2/9 which just got approved today in WA. ATF is slipping but still better than the record 11 month wait a while back

Well I got my specwar k back today. I sent the paperwork off January 16th, check was cashed January 22nd, and it was approved April 9th, received the stamp in the mail today just went to pick it up from my SOT. Not too bad for my first purchase, sadly I feel the fever for another one starting. This was on a form 4 trust.

So how does that last step of the approval process work? The ATF calls you (or the SOT?) to let you know it has been approved and the stamp is in the mail? Then they mail it to the address of the person/trust that applied... or the SOT?

My Sot got the approved form and stamp in the mail today, they called me and I went to go pick up my hush puppy from my SOT. Never got a phone call from the ATF, just a surprise call from my SOT saying hey come get it.

There's no phone call from the ATF, they just mail the stamp to the transferor (SOT) who then contacts the transferee (you).

Ok, I was trying to make sense of all the columns of data at NFATracker. For a paper form, it would seem to me that unless you call the ATF very regularly for status updates that the only dates you could really nail down are:
- Date of purchase (irrelevant to BATFE processing really)
- Date of mailing forms
- Date of check being cashed
- Date of receiving stamp (or phone call from SOT)

The other columns of seem to address speed of mail and handling on the transferor/transferee's part, or are internal timing issues at the ATF :
- forms arrived
- pending
- 2nd pending
- approved
