Dead Air Mask-22

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

of course, this is keeping me from getting a Ryder or Sparrow, still chasing Unicorns, like that titanium Huntertown that never surfaced.... knowing the reputation of Mr Pappas, it wont be long.

I don't think that I'd buy huntertown based on what I've read about on these boards.

My prediction is that they start shipping to distributors next week.

But ... That's just my guess.

Baffles have a "stand-off" machined into then. When snapped together, they form a solid baffle stack inside the tube. Those stand offs form a spacer between the outer wall of the baffle stack and the inner wall of the suppressor tube. This makes cleaning a breeze. Baffles will drop out of the tube and they can be easily tumbled, unlike a monocore which is not so easily tumbled.

I trust what Todd Magee and Mike Pappas has come up with. They're not out to just enter the market with copies of what has already been done. They are looking to lead and innovate,

I handled a Sandman L & S last week and was extremely impressed with the workmanship and finish. It felt like a Rolex where it was a solid and precise mechanism.

Looks like you were dead on. They announced on facebook they will be shipping next week. Sure you don't work for DA?

No. I don't work for Dead Air. I wish I did. I am a database architect with a passion for all things firearms.

I already have three rimfire cans total with two of them pending but this one is tempting just with the hype about how well made it is and how well it performs.
It is not the Death Rattle in the throat of Western civilization which is surprising: it is the fact that millions of Americans believe that the death rattle is a beautiful song!

I'm quite curious to read about any thoughts from the maker of this can on the reasons for using a very shallow cone for the baffle face, instead of a more usual scooped face. Seems a sort of washer/K hybrid design... which doesn't quite seem a step forward. Same for the rather diminutive jetting cuts which seem to be about 1/3 as prominent as the jets cut into the average K. Of course the proper field tests with comparisons to known .22lr cans and proper metering will tell whether these elements are superior. But I'd love to hear the engineering rationale.

Well it worked because it's my best sounding suppressor. I can't get enough of it. Great can!

Is there a specific order to the baffles like the Surefire Ryder, other than the blast baffle?

Just the first and last. Everything inbetween is identical.

I agree, the Mask is my new favorite. It has a nice tone, easy to take apart, easy to clean, great machining and it's quiet too. My Element and Element 2 can now be retired. Not really, the Elements still perform well.

115 is actually pretty decent. Element is 114/115 at best on rifles. Spectre 2 115/116.

It's significantly shorter than the Spectre 2, so if it preforms the same that's not too shabby. The Regulator sounds fantastic at 111-114 dB depending on the host, and it's much longer than the Mask.

The initial tests we did (not super scientific, just to get a rough idea) had some numbers as low as 108 with the Mask. I expect the official tests to be a bit higher... so if that holds up it's pretty insane.

((Now another recently released can we tested had 129 FRP and average of 121dB.... that I would consider not good.))

Realistically, anything well below 120dB is just splitting hairs. Better to focus on the features, design, cleanability.

I ran a quick test on the Mask, averages below:

On the Ruger and S&W, ammo was Remington Hollow points, 22 Golden Bullet (old Walmart bulk-pack, very inconsistant).

On the Savage, ammo was CCI Quiet.

Ruger 22/45: 115.7 db
S&W M&P 15-22: 114.9 db
Savage FV-SR: 104.9 db

Keep in mind that db reduction is only part of the equation. I'll run a more controlled test this weekend and compare it with an Element 2.
