Modifying a suppressor / legalities and function?

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

Modifying a suppressor / legalities and function?

Post by Jer »

So, I have a YHM Phantom Stainless QD in 5.56. It is a full one-piece non-user serviceable can.

Question 1: Is it legal to take it to a machine shop and have the travel channels drilled out so that it will work with 300 blk?
Question 2: Will doing so actually allow the suppressor to function with a 300 blk or will it destroy the suppressors ability to suppress?

You can't change the caliber and you can take it to a machine shop. only licensed manufactures can work on or recore cans.

If the machine shop happens to be a Class VII dealer - then it's "legal" for them to do the conversion?

And what about the function?
