Have any of you guys seen this vid of this drone with a handgun on board? Now my question is how a can with a neilsen device would behave on it haha.

First time I've seen it.
First one I've see that doesn't look shopped.

Empty cases, I wonder about them hitting the rotors.

They should flip the handgun upside down to avoid that.paper9 wrote:Empty cases, I wonder about them hitting the rotors.

Im going to bet that if weaponizing a drone isn't already a federal offence, it soon will be.

No need to bet, I think it already is illegal under FAA.

Re: Handguns and drones
At one point (in the 90's), one would find kits in hobby catalogs (Tower or such) which facilitated the attachment of .22 rifles to the larger R/C helicopters; at that time there was never any worry back then about if it might be illegal. I can't imagine that it somehow made it on the books between now and then -- though it's also true that DIAS's are still sold in shotgun news.

It is. FAA came up with rules about it to make actor Michel Dorn (Worf from ST-TNG) remove the guns from his fighter jet.Aaron wrote:Im going to bet that if weaponizing a drone isn't already a federal offence, it soon will be.

I thought so too but I haven't been able to find supporting documentation.L1A1Rocker wrote:...

I just keep finding stuff like this.

Found it:
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
Seriously though, it will be interesting to see how all this pans out. I have to wonder how long it will be before we have our first "mass droning" with the operator a significant distance away (allowing them to get away a-la the beltway sniper).

Re: Handguns and drones
If that is a software controlled solenoid pulling the trigger, I think that counts as a machine gun.

How so? One shot fired per pull.ShadesFox wrote:If that is a software controlled solenoid pulling the trigger, I think that counts as a machine gun.
If it was configured such that you used a momentary switch on the radio, and holding that switch fired more than one round (thus the switch being the trigger), then you're absolutely right but if a button push is required for each discharge, then it should be "a-ok". Keep in mind that under the current ATF logic, a Gatling gun (like an M134) with a hand crank (instead of an electric motor) is NOT a machine gun.

There's the rub.sillycon wrote:... Keep in mind that under the current ATF logic, a Gatling gun (like an M134) with a hand crank (instead of an electric motor) is NOT a machine gun.
You press the button or throw the switch to start the motor once resulting in many rounds fired.
With a software controlled solenoid you can program it to fire many times for one press of the enter key, one throw of the switch.
I'm not saying this makes any f*kin sense at all.

Re: Handguns and drones
There are electronic triggers.
Re: Handguns and drones
Yes and reading 2004-5 makes one think the ATF rulings body is actually a barrel of schizophrenic monkeys with typewriters.

Re: Handguns and drones
The point with the software controlled solenoid is that it is readily convertible into a machine gun with a software update. I've also not seen an electronic trigger on a semiautomatic with a software programable micro controller, because of this reason. Usually the electronic trigger is on a bolt gun like the tracking point.

Re: Handguns and drones
There are electronic AR15 triggers that exist. But true - maybe the ATF will kill them from being sold.

I needed a good laugh after the day I had today, and that "image" was just the trick!
