How to clean a Aluminum baffle

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

How to clean a Aluminum baffle

Post by toytraindoc »

Can anyone tell me what is the correct way to clean a Aluminum baffle? The baffle is from a Huntertown arms Guarsian 22 can.

Carefully! :)

One school of thought: i

one need not have OCD and clean
to shiny polished. A tooth brush with Simple Green after rubbing with
baking soda does a neat job with no damage. White glove inspection will
not be performed.

Then a thin lube with
Permatex Anti Seize retards build up.

Now stellite baffles will be a joy forever in any next purchase.

I have one old suppressor that has aluminum baffles, it has a nice gold color anodizing on most of the baffles. I take the lazy approach, I completely disassemble it and place it in a coffee can full of diesel and leave it for about two weeks. Then drip dry for a while, finish up with compressed air and wipe it down. Usually gets 98%, and if I don't let my OCD get ahold of me, I just put it back together after re-applying anti-seize to the threads.

I cheat an use a media blast chamber with walnut shells... at 40psi, it is so gentle that even alodine coating is preserved.

I have the cabinet for other uses (welding and machining)...

It DOES work great for baffles...

Remember, a little bit of fouling on the baffles actually makes a can quieter so you do not really want to remove any more than the big chunks and anything that interferes with the can coming apart or otherwise functioning
