Project "Fatboy" is making progress.

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

Project "Fatboy" is making progress.

Post by TITAN308 »

Long story short, after being stuck in Form 3 limbo, as of today Form 4 finally mailed off.

This is a dedicated 300 sub sonic build that is going to use a Gemtech MK9K suppressor.

In a nutshell you have a 2" OD suppressor matched to a 2" OD YHM free float tube. Its a pig of a setup. I like it. lol

I wanted to go for a "monolithic" type look.

Yeah, it's gonna look bad-ass.
Is that a swan sleeve? Haven't seen one of those used in a while.

What buttstock you going with?

Forgive me, I have no idea what a swan sleeve is.

As far as the butt stock I am looking at two choices;

1. Magpul CTR + JP Silent Spring
2. Troy PDW Kit

Option one would be a little more quiet, but number two has a certain flare to it.

Wow. That looks great!

I'm glad you asked what a swan sleeve was.

I'd go with the JP set up. The Troy will look better, but the JP will feel better. So smooth.

I took a closer look and it seems yours is not a swan sleeve.

But here one is.

Oh I see.

HaHa no! It is simply a set of Magpul MBUS with a YHM 11.25" length riser.

I am going for a VLTOR CASV type look witout the VLTOR pricetag to be honest. PRI also makes a similar setup, but again, some serious dough. Would rather put the money towards other things on the rifle.

YHM makes some pretty nice AR kit for the money. I've got some of their scope rings and BUIS as well as lightweight forends. Very hard to beat for the price

Just a small update. I basically got in all the remaining parts for the entire build minus optics and optic mounts. I have Vortex Strike Eagle on lay-a-way at the LGS, but no hurry to pay it off as I'm basically waiting on the Form 4 anyhow.

I dropped the upper off and the new 300BLK barrel to our local master gunsmith and hope to have that back in the next week or so.

I really wanted to go with the Gemtech bolt carrier, but I realized that is all it is, a carrier So basically $200 and then I have to actually get the internals for it. Just opted for a Daniel Defense complete BCG.

I did splurge a little bit on the buffer/spring setup and just went for a JP Enterprise Silent Captured Spring. Let me tell you I can see this thing being worth every last penny ($130). The operation on it is stupid smooth and basically the whole cartoon "sproing!" of a standard buffer and spring is eliminated virtually all together. Seeing as this is suppose to be as silent of a 300BLK as I can make it, seemed like a no brainer.

To be honest this is amazing. Can't wait to see the video of how it performs. You have a great build there and look sweet.

Man, you guys are making me feel old! I remember when the Swan Sleeve was the state of the art! Pretty much kicked off the whole "co-witness" with a red dot sight and BUIS concept. A mainstay of the A.R.M.S. line up. GG&G also copied the design. I believe that the MK12 MOD 0 also used one in conjunction with a PRI free float handguard.

Sorry yes, it uses a Magpul FVG it just wasn't installed when I took the picture.

Here is basically the setup while I wait for the suppressor to get out of jail (still toying with exact placement, but just a snap shot at least)

Honestly, with the suppressor installed its back to a little over 16" - so adding a PDW stock at the moment isn't going to save me much length. Also its a budget thing. More or less, counting this as a two stamp gun, this build is already slightly over $3,000 once I installed the ADM scope mounts and Vortex Strike Eagle. Keep in mind this is with low budget PSA receivers to boot and a simple AR-Stoner 1:8 barrel.

Small update, finally got optics all ready.

Vortex Strike Eage + Vortex SV-4 Throwlever in an ADM single QR mount.

Very nice looking upper. I like them fat too. :) The glass will next on my list too.

Image

My can is a Liberty Chaotic. The Chaotic weights 24 oz, just 4 oz more than the 20 oz Mk9K but the core is SS and rated for all full power .30 rounds. Liberty will be releasing a titanium core Chaotic this year so the weight should be around 14 oz.
If it doesn't splatter, shatter, burst or explode, it's not worth shooting.

Yup the chaotic is on my "to buy list" as an upgrade later on.

I have plenty of things I can move the MK9K to, like my scorpion.

I suppose there's something to be said about "girth". LOL. I'm currently trying to decide on "length or girth" for a suppressor on my 300 BLK pistol (eventual SBR). I imagine internal volume is internal volume, but I'm far from an expert on this.

I have two Liberty cans. They frequently have an "upgrade" deal going on their older models. I would bet they will have an upgrade to the new core.
