How's it different? As with the example of the new civil war musket, acquiring a replacement Knight's Armament QD suppressor is, um, unlikely. And it'd cost a LOT if some collector was willing to sell.

Very cool. Now that was the answer I was looking for. I guess you get what you get then but 13 months sounds like a long turn around time but I've never had custom work done on a suppressor. It does sound a bit odd (to me) to take that long after they offered to buy it from the OP.

Because the KAC XM9 is no longer manufactured. Last time I saw (~10 years ago) they came with a specially modified Beretta 92 at were running $3k-$5k for the setup. They're very hard to come by.

Sounds like it would take less time and not that much more money to just buy a new suppressor. Considering the wait is in the 5 month or so range currently. Of course there is the tax stamp cost and depending on the suppressor cost but I couldn't wait 13 months for a repair.

I think you're in the realm of saying "just go buy a new civil war musket" not quite the same as what these guys are working on.

It took longer than projected for a number of reason and it there was more to it tham a simple drop in baffle replacement.

Custom work always takes longer since there is more involved.

This took longer due to some issues that are now resolved.

What does offering to buy it have anything to do with the turnaround time? Its a hard to find item......someone can ask at any stage of the work if they would be interested in parting with it.

I was just referring to the "not easily replaceable" aspect of why you wouldn't just go get a new can. No opinion either way on the rest.

Don't get into NFA if your queasy about long waits.

I don't blame B for trying to buy it. Those cans are one of a kind and rarely pop up for sale.

I've waited for up to 2 years for some custom metal work at times, often with no communication for months (any shop worth it's salt will focus on the shorter projects which bring in day-to-day cash flow first and work on the complex one offs slowly), so that it's perfectly normal for no progress to occur for months. I see no reason to get riled up about such things. When one seeks a perfectionist to do something, one goes in with the known caveat that it will be finished when it's finished.

The suppressor was received this week. So I must now wait patiently for the baffle stack to be finished. Short answer, no.

The important part was getting the serialized portion back here to the FFL.

I often had to put a year wait on the estimate of how long the the project would take.When you have to rely on other companies to deliver, it becomes even more difficult.Each company dealt with must have NFA manufacturing ability.Often the FFL must pay the bill for licensing as a condition of services for these specialized services. Business relationships can be tedious and to be fair its best to not cast dispersion's upon even your competition because no business is exempt from problems.I have seen a high degree of professional ethics in dealing with this difficult problem as laid out in this thread but its been one sided do to purposeful omissions.

First time poster here at Silencer Talk. Actually had to join because I read this story below and its the same exact store as mine only mine is worse. 6 suppressors over 5 years and the work not complete. This company is a total rip off and Matt is a great scam artist.
I would stay far away from SRI and Matt. Anyone interested in working with SRI should contact me via PM. I had to post to save anyone else from getting lied to again.

First things first, I am looking to make things right before blowing them out of proportion and smearing him as that is not my intention.

Little back story. I am an FFL/SOT. I have a Knights Armament XM9 (the Beretta "snap on" 9mm silencer)

When the XM9 came into my possession unfortunately it did not have the internals. No end cap and inside tube/wipes/spacers. I had a local 07 fab up some stuff to stuff inside of it, poorly and crude made baffles, just to get keep things kosher with not having "spare" parts laying around. I figured having been on this forum long enough there were some reputable people here who could custom recore that old can for me. I chose a dealer most of us here are familiar with, contacted them, made arrangements for sending my silencer off to be fixed up.

That was thirteen months ago. I have remained in constant contact with Matt/Stalking Rhino checking the status of my custom project but as we get into the last two months I have ceased to hear back with anything. I have sent repeated emails and left voicemails asking that my silencer be returned to me. Even sent a box and a return label inside.

Last week ATF came in for their normal inspection/audit of my FFL. Unfortunately ATF is not looking kindly at me at a thirteen month long "Repair" of an NFA item that is on my registry.

I mailed a money order to SRI for $375 with the suppressor for the recore thirteen months ago. Money order was cashed. The box and shipping label I sent in January was signed for and received. I have kept up my end of the bargain and still seems like I am getting the shaft.

Matt offered to buy that suppressor off me multiple times. Since I declined to sell it, it seems he is just going to attempt to keep it.

I have calls into the ATF field office in North Carolina, and I have a couple agents here in Kansas City who are going to help me retrieve my silencer back.

Unfortunately this is all happening while my form 4 is pending transfer out to me.

Just a heads up to guys here on the forum.
