Rugged Obsidian 45 Availability

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

That depends on the dealer. You'll want to get clarification prior to purchase. A local dealer to me recently changed from including a piston in the can price, to not including one.

It came with a .578x28 piston
It is not the Death Rattle in the throat of Western civilization which is surprising: it is the fact that millions of Americans believe that the death rattle is a beautiful song!

578 by 28 = cool... ill hope mine from ss has the same.

In regards to the finish, i remember watching nfareviews video and he commented how nice and even the finish was... maybe they changed their finish due to increaced production. Im hoping mine looks as nice as the one in the video.

Tarheel state firearms had some serial # for a few obsidians, but they werent listed on their site, you have to call them. I payed for mine a few weeks ago. I don't know if they sold them all or not though.

Hi,

FYI...Here is the answer to everyone asking about the finish on the Obsidian 45's. I emailed Rugged and got the following response:

"All of the production Obsidians have Cerakote piston housings and the main tube and module body are hard coat anodized. There were a few early models that were fully Cerakoted, however, we decided to make a change to the production models in order to give customers what we feel is a better, more durable product."

If it bugs anyone that bad they can ceracote.
It's not a silencer, it's a can of whoopass!

Does anyone know what the benefit of changing this for the production models would be? My thinking is that they could decrease production time by using a uniform coating and the cost couldn't be much different, but I'm not sure what the pros would be for doing this.

Keeps them from having to cerakote the already-anodized tube.
Saves time, and cerakote.

I'm a Rugged fan, but honestly I don't care for the two-tone look

That makes sense.. I didn't realize they were anodizing AND cerakoting. Seems like a bad way to save a few pennies based on the feedback so far. Personally if I had the choice on mine I'd take a uniform coating, but it is by no means a deal breaker. It'll be interesting to see how they look after 10k rounds and a little abuse.

Count me in for NO for the two-tone look. Not a huge deal but come on guys, let's not make this a normal thing.
