Re: would you do this to your can???
Who is the manufacturer that was OK with this?
Just added many failure points? Don't understand.
But from a fashion point, couldn't they have gotten the same look with a pink mini mouse suppressor cover?

It's not a silencer, it's a can of whoopass!

Re: would you do this to your can???
I wouldn't do it to my can unless they can somehow explain it improves performance w/o decreasing service life. In which case the OEM probably would have included the feature in the first place.

That's not a real suppressor. Look closely at the dimples, you can see the material is aluminum and with the depth he went with the drill it would have broken through the tube. I think its just a fake suppressor.

IDK, there looks to be distal and end caps. Why would a fake suppressor need these?curtistactical wrote:That's not a real suppressor. As for a MFR OK, I call BS. I don't see ANY MFR saying it would be ok to do this.
Maybe, the MFR said, "Go ahead, but we won't cover any warranty issues.".
Regardless, if they were going for the Socom can look, they failed.

Re: would you do this to your can???
The seller was on Facebook claiming that the can is real and made of steel. I asked him if the manufacturer would warranty the can. I think I pissed him off as he stopped responding. I wasn't trying to be a jerk with him. I just know that there will be other people who thinks it would be ok if they did the same thing.

Re: would you do this to your can???
I have seen several different manufacturers use some REALLY thick al tubing.....if its one of them then it won't even phase it. Leaning more towards fake can as I don't know a single manufacturer that would warrant it....I know I wouldn't.curtistactical wrote:That's not a real suppressor. Definitely not STEEL.Unless it was raw steel and he painted it THEN gave it acne.
Re: would you do this to your can???
The real question is whether one gets 1337s operator skillz with this mod.
I assume he was trying to go for the old SOCOM can look. If memory serves the SOCOM can had baffles spot welded to the tube, hence the look. But in a conventional suppressor, WTF?! This will weaken the tube.
How thick can the tube get tho? I wouldn't use thicker than 1/16", even for Al.

I have seen on larger diameter cans up to 1/4" thick walls and on smaller diameter cans up to around 1/8" walls.LavaRed wrote:The real question is whether one gets 1337s operator skillz with this mod.

Re: would you do this to your can???
Wow. 1/8" wall on a small can. For a really high pressure cartridge at least? Can't think why one would want to go that heavy... but what do I know? I certainly can't fathom why anyone would want to drill tiny divots all around a can. Just looks dorky as hell without accomplishing anything. Did the guy bother explaining his intention? Drill jig practice maybe? Closest image I can find to it is this silly bugger here, a 'barrel extension' for airsoft. And no point with that one either.

he has since deleted my responses. guess he didn't like what I had to say. I want to see what it looks like after a few super sonic rounds.

I'll bet he OK'd it with the manufacturer of the drill bit.

1/4" and 1/8" ?!?!?!?! That's insane! The only time I ever used 1/8" thick walls was with my experimental tubeless .22 suppressor, and that because the inner and outer threading sections were 1/16" thick, therefore totalling 1/8" assembled.Bendersquint wrote:I have seen on larger diameter cans up to 1/4" thick walls and on smaller diameter cans up to around 1/8" walls.LavaRed wrote:The real question is whether one gets 1337s operator skillz with this mod.

That is indeed one dorky setup. I'd have used an unmolested suppressor, a PRS stock or even an A1, and a Nikon P223 cope on that, and it would be decent out to about 300 yards, maybe more depending on the shooter. Also note the lack of backup irons or a sling of any sort. I'll be impressed of that rifle has been fired at all or even zeroed in!

Mars, you located in AR? I know the shop who had this done.

Yes. Again, I wasn't trying to be a jerk to the guy. I hear that he seems to be a pretty upstanding guy. I just wanted others to understand that this was not a good idea and to not follow suit.samson7x wrote:Mars, you located in AR? I know the shop who had this done.

Oh I understand completely. I haven't asked him about it so I have no idea why he would've done that. Looks like an Armtac can? If so, then yes I'm sure they ok'd it . They are way heavy and overbuilt....and loud for that matter.

I'd think I'd rather have C3PO's red arm hanging from the muzzle of my rifle than that fugly thing.
