Shooting silencer with no baffles

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

Shooting silencer with no baffles

Post by lmpdtroy »

Just wondering if anyone has shot a silencer without the baffles in it just to see what happens. Me and a friend were having a discussion about it. Thought I would be able to find a youtube video but haven't so far.

That's called the "flaming pig" flash suppressor.

If you took all of the baffles out of a silencer, the end-cap would still constitute one baffle, and it would add a very small amount of suppression.

But no baffles? That would still make the shot slightly more tolerable for the shooter.

You would be halfway to a "Bloop Tube".

Might hide some flash, would probably direct the noise more away from the shooter (blast shield), would probably increase felt recoil.
It's not a silencer, it's a can of whoopass!

One of the triple-As I drive past has this very thing on all four of the muzzles: cones, meant more for redirecting the blast from the operators than to actually reduce the sound-signature.

I once boned a chicken that hadn't been shot.

You are a bad, bad, boy!
