A response in another thread got me thinking. In that response, someone claimed they rolled their own fingerprints. I know I can purchase the cards from Amazon, but I'm a bit concerned about how much it would cost to get finger prints rolled. The last time I had to do that at a PD I did it in my college for free, but I'm no longer a student there. I figure maybe a gun show with Concealed carry class would be equipped to do it, but I don't know how much they'd charge.
If it's really true you can roll your own fingerprints, is there anyone here who's done it? Any special equipment necessary? Where do you get the cards?

Try doing it on copy paper first.
If they look good to you, you can always order some cards from the ATF directly.

I don't care what your chart says

PD pricing varies widely.
My local dept wants $25/set
Order the cards from the ATF. Get a bunch.
They are free, ship for free, and have the ATF's ORI number on them.
Buy a quality ink pad, it won't break the bank.
I made a little holder, for the print card, and it makes it easier. Taping the corners can work, but it's easier if you're near the edge of the counter.
I just sign my name where it asks for the official's signature. I also put "self" in for employer.
You just need a smooth rolling motion, actually twisting wrist and forearm, and you'll get good prints.

These are VITAL points!!! If you represent yourself as a LEO... So just write your own name and don't forge by using someone else's name or a Public Agency. (If you are applying as a NRA Trust, you can fill in that name as Employer. But 'Self' is also fine.)T-Rex wrote:I just sign my name where it asks for the official's signature. You can also ask someone else to take them for you. A passport Service, Security School, or even some Banks can assist you. You know those thumbprint pads at the Teller Counter? After heat is applied, the pink ink turns black. That's how many Security Firms print their people.

Re: Who here rolls their own fingerprints?
I did not realize you could submit your own fingerprints, thought it had to be done by the police. So you can do it yourself? Just sign the card and write self in for the agency? Thanks
Re: Who here rolls their own fingerprints?
I have to be fingerprinted annually to maintain a license for a side job and I always roll my own. I recommend you do a little research on line to see what an acceptable set of "rolled" fingerprints look like, but once you know what they're looking for it ain't hard.

Ask a prior LEO for help if you are unsure. If you were in New Orleans I would be glad to help you in exchange for a chai at Starbucks. Maybe PJ's...
