Finally got word that my Sparrow was ready for pickup (excited).
Forms mailed 2/1, card charged 4/1, approved 7/22, received 8/11 (happy).
Attempted to attached to the MK III I picked up at a gun show recently, but no joy on the threads (confused).
Pulled out my thread gauges and found out whoever threaded the pistol used 1/2-20 threads... some manufacturers use/used this thread for .22's (angry).
Staring at my shiny new silencer that won't thread onto my pistol (sad).
Pistol was a good deal at $330 for a threaded MK III... but I should have known from the abortive modification to the front sight that something was wrong.
So, anyone know a good place to send off an MK III for a cut, thread, sight re-locate?

The ½" x 20 thread is the same as the antiquated Parker Hale MM1 of
the 1930's or some present day EU brands.
Aside from the unappealing prospect of getting a ½" x 20 tpi
to ½" x28" tpi adapter you might consider an interesting
thought of exchanging your very nice looking Ruger for a Smith and Wesson 41
and adding a Ray Brandes threaded Bully Barrel that he has started remaking.
Having been most lucky to have purchased one of the last Bully Barrels some years
ago I found that it out shot my original 1965 S&W 41 barrel. Using
a 1 MOA red-dot similar tight group as that shown below ... with old eyes.

You can buy another correctly-threaded pistol and sell the one you currently own.
You can buy another threaded barrel for the Ruger and sell the one currently installed.
You can get an adapter from TROS.

Problem solved. 1/2x20 is found on some European stuff, as stated above. Adapters are fairly easy to get. Why a smith threaded it to x20 though... that is mighty odd.

Re: Emotional Rollercoaster - Picking up my SiCo Sparrow
The solution I decided on was to pick up a take-off 22/45 lite upper... prices to re-thread an MK start at $90 which was most of the way to a new upper, and I just can't stand adapters unless I absolutely have to have them.
When I have access to a lathe again, I'll re-thread the MK III upper to 1/2-28.

It's not a silencer, it's a can of whoopass!
Re: Emotional Rollercoaster - Picking up my SiCo Sparrow
I'd suggest a Tactical Solutions PAC LITE upper, problem solved. I have one that I put on a 30 year old MKII that I have not used in years, now it's my favorite range gun.

Since I still have all the extra bits and pieces, I bought this guy:CanOfWhooppass wrote: http://www.ruger-parts.net/threaded-barrels/

About $150 shipped to my FFL buddy, who will kindly do the transfer for free.
The PAC LITE and Volq. uppers are nice, but the price tag...

Well, there is certainly more than one way to skin a cat. Other than the aluminum grips looking silly now, I'm super duper happy.

I hope it works out well for you!
