ATF processing time

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

ATF processing time

Post by 5th_Amendment »

I've been watching NFA tracker for months and It doesn't seem that any new applications are being posted. I have 2 efile SBR Form 1s on a trust that are due; however, nothing from early April on has been updated. Of course, I filed mine 26 April.

I have 3 suppressors in jail as well that I filed in June, so guessing I may get a Christmas present If I'm lucky.

Anyone seeing any ATF stamp movement? Or, is the wait driving me crazy?

February form 4 applications are just now being approved so that's seven months. It will probably not improve better than that until next year at least. Considering June was the deadline for the new rules with the associated rush I expect the wait time to go to nine months or more. Just look at the trend graph at NFATracker, it's spiking.

An e-filed form 1 should be at least a month or two faster than a paper form 4. When the hell will ATF get e-filing for form 4's working again? Your efficient government at (not) work.

The graph trend is precisely my angst. It's definitely up, and trending up, but I don't see any movement post mid April; up, down or level. It just stopped. I had a crazy thought that with the rule change, the ATF took a coffee break for a few months while they wait for something.

The wait is killing me.

Go Santa Clause!!!

My efiled, form 1's, from 2/28, were approved 8/16 (5 weeks ago & under 6 month turn-around).
They should be well into march, or maybe even April, by now.
Remember, NFA tracker is purely voluntary. If people don't add their info, or forget to complete it, data is skewed.

I think we're into a bulk of the time when people were panic buying for 41F.
I'd venture a guess that the majority had no clue about NFA tracker and/or were too busy to deal with it.
This would also skew the data.

Form 4 approval seems to be running around 6.5 months. I got my first one and just over a week ago and it was 6 months and almost 3 weeks.

My efiled Form 1 was submitted3/29 and was just approved on 9/17

These used to take about 30 days.

It's going to take some time. Work on other projects, spend time with loved ones etc and try to take your mind off.

That matches up almost exactly with what Silencer Shop is showing right now. Mine was submitted 2/27 so I'm hoping it comes in next week, it's been a long wait.

Still no can. Called my dealer last week and he said he had a safe full of cans for people. I suspect we are at the stage where it depends on who's desk the pile of Form 4s are located at ATF.

My eform was APPROVED. Here's a stupid question: I received an emailed eform approval with a digital stamp on it. I was expecting a mailed form and a real stamp. Is the .pdf it??

My Form 1 was submitted 4/28 and received 10/19.

I have 2 more in process, each a month apart...should be interesting to see how the wait times spread out or if they stay roughly consistent to the submittal intervals.

Bought my first suppressor via trust in November of 2014 and picked it up from the dealer in March 2015.

Ordered another one from Silencer Shop in May 2016 . . . just received word this week that they shipped my suppressor to my local dealer, but no news on my Form 4 (other than it was submitted).

How hard is it to process these stupid forms?

Maybe some day a miracle will happen and suppressors will be moved off of the NFA . . .

I know . . . but a guy can dream right?
