octane 45 abnormal wear

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

octane 45 abnormal wear

Post by sonicnofadz » Sun Nov 27, 2016 1:45 pm

This suppressor is pretty much brand new, used only one time (500 rounds via FNX-tactical, and 100 rounds via Glock 21), pictured is the wear on the aluminum "spring retainer". Guessing this is very soft 6000-series aluminum. Anyone know if silencerco sells spare spring retainers?

No information on the spring retainer but you have a ring just like mine. I've never seen anyone else with one like ours. :D

My o-ring is tight enough to where I dont think the piston gets a chance to touch that wall.
Maybe try a new o-ring. If problem persists, contact them. Makes me wonder about the anodizing as type III should resist light abrasion.

Yeah the O-ring was completely shredded, so maybe that is why...the area that was damaged was inline with the direction of the barrel tilt, so I guess that makes sense. I was just thinking, hell if this thing has this much wear from the first time out, I need to buy a couple of spares!

I corresponded with silencerco via email today. They do not offer this part for sale, but offered to replace it if I ship my original part back to them. Kind of disappointing. I'll try replacing the O-ring and add some synthetic grease, hopefully this resolves the issue. If not I'll probably end up machining my own piece out of hard anodized 7075

I'm quite sure Silencerco will be diligent about getting you a new piece in a timely manner.
However, I'd try changing out the o-ring first.

Mine has the same wear. I think it's to be expected. A compressible O-ring is not going to be strong enough to keep the piston from contacting the wall there. I wouldn't worry about it really. Those O-rings are definitely a high wear item.

hmm :/ kind of a shame to even have to deal with that on an ~$800 can. I tend to hold SilencerCo in very high regard (more so the SWR part). Im sure they will make right, but im curious if its just a mfg defect or how all those pieces are made.
