Specter 2 upgrade worth it?

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

Specter 2 upgrade worth it?

Post by vaeevictiss »

I know, worth is up to each person but i noticed that silencerco is still doing the upgrades. I have the original specter with the SWR branding on it still and was wondering if the upgraded baffle stack was worth the $200. I know it makes it easier to disassemble for cleaning but is it any quieter as well? The cleaning is not a big deal to me. I just push them out, drop them in the Dip and then anything left after the Dip comes off after a spin in my SS tumbler.

anyone done this?

Not any quieter that your ear would notice.

Depending on the day, the ammo, the host, the location and more it might meter 1dB lower than the best published numbers for a Spectre not upgraded or it might meter 4dB higher.

Primary benefits are easier to disassemble and clean, if you don't care about that then it's not worth your time.

Ok cool. I can probably put that 200 towards another stamp. Still holding out for that HPA though lol.

Someone else will probably disagree with me vehemently.

So, I like the styling of the old Spectre better and you will lose the front and rear cap and it will be in the new style.

After prolonged use, it will be easier to get the baffles out.

If you are going to do this, please contact me first, I have a proposal.

Matt I still wonder if it's worth it as well. May I inquire about your proposal as well?

I've got the original and the 2, and I like both, I haven't felt the need to upgrade the old one, and I do like the original styling better. It's been a toss up for me, and I consider it every year since the upgrade path was available, but the Spectre I has never let me down and isn't that much more of a pain to clean and I still think it is one of the finest cans made to this day. I'd still recommend the original over many of the newer cans I've shot. Whatever secret thing Mpallet has in mind would probably be awesome though.
Stupid, stupid NFA items.
