Form 1 wait time today - hpa and saturated market

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

Form 1 wait time today - hpa and saturated market

Post by Hannibalbarca »

So given that many people bought Suppressors before the change to trusts and that everyone is waiting for the hpa is it safe to say that a form 1 should have a shorter wait time now than 6 months ago?
is a couple of months a possibility since it seems like no one is buying Suppressors?

I'd be very surprised if the wait time didn't start dropping quickly in a month or two. They aren't done with all the pre-july-13 forms yet though. Almost. One filed now should definitely not take as long as the ones being returned right now. But you never know. I filed two in February, in hoping those have a 6 month wait or less.

Not saying its true, but I heard they've either taken some examiners off of processing or they're working less. The weekly amount of processed docs has been dropping. This will slow the remainder of the 7/13 pile, but I would think the process will get quicker once it is gone. The only negative, looking forward, is that trust processing times will depend on how many responsible parties are listed. This could hinder the overall processing times or maybe not; people may be using solo trusts or doing the individual thing.

Positive thoughts

One thing is for sure, the sooner you file your form 1, the sooner you will get it back. It's next to impossible to file later and get it back sooner.

This.

One thing that has rung true throughout the years on this forum is when there is nail biting and hesitance over filing a form it's always the nail biters that end up waiting the longest.

Just talking about it never gets anything done, even on an internet forum.

If you were to file now, yes you should certainly do a lot better than the current 9 to 10 months. Really hard to guess what it would be though, we will have to wait and see.

I certainly am not buying anything until the HPA is resolved one way or the other. Given the disarray of the Republican Congress I'm not very hopeful.

Who knows, there are so many sides and complexities to it that it just can't be predicted. I hope, but who knows, that once the the July backlog clears things will speed up. I'm still waiting on a form 1 from July 7th.

That said I hope it speeds up cause I just got another suppresor from my LGS yesterday and would like to see it for christsmas. I said I was done after the new regs but here I am buying what will be my 7th suppresor. This will be the second time filing as an individual cause there are too many of my family on my trust to get them all through the process at this point.

I'm not holding my breath on HPA, that's why I just bought this suppresor... aside from a shotgun and 45 suppressor I've got all I need, now want is completely different.

I *want* a 30 cal can but I really don't need it. I can wait for the HPA to sort itself out.

It is my understanding that if the HPA passes, your stamp monies will be refunded and any items at the dealers waiting on the stamp will be immediately released. Is that incorrect?

On another forum Joshua from Capital Armory said they are receiving 400+ forms a week. I read this as good news and hope the wait on my Rev 9 check cashed 2-5-17 isn't as long as originally thought but time will tell. This was a form 4 individual like the old days.
