Ablatives....

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

Ablatives....

Post by hammerdown12 »

I know this topic has been discussed, hopefully not to the point of being beaten to death...

I'm just curious outside of wire pulling gel, water, and ultra sound gel what others have tried.

I myself have had good success with Germ-X. Yup, hand sanitizer in both my Octane 45 and my form 1 .22lr can.

I found (by measuring) that 1 pump is equal to 1cc so I put 5 pumps in the blast chamber. Being able to use the pump sure makes it easy to apply it It reduces sound a lot, and clean up is a snap. In fact. I love it, the whole inside of can is coated with it when I take it apart, and I can literally wash my cans with Dawn, scrubbing lightly with a toothbrush and rinse off the gunk in the sink.

Only con I found after 1000s of rounds in both cans is on my Octane 45 shooting 9mm or .40 through it (don't have a .45 yet) that I get sprayed a bit on my arms on the first few shots. But it's just sanitizer, so...

In the .22lr can, issue is non- existent. I get 3-4 10 round mags with my S&W M&P 22 compact pistol and one 15 round mag on 9mm / 40 before I need another "dose."

What have you guys tried? I'd love to hear some successes and failures.

It has been beaten completely to death. But people will talk about it anyway.

Best ablatives

1. Wire Pulling Gel

2. Water

3. Dr. Pepper (Diet)

Dispensers, no particular order.

Lithium grease. Makes a very ugly looking mess with rimfire but cleaning us so much easier. Using a plastic syringe to squirt about 1cc into the blast chamber every couple of magazines prevents any significant carbon bonding to the baffles.

Try coating the K-baffles in a .22 suppressor lightly with bentonite based copper anti-seize, both on the inside and the outside of the baffles.
Not only will this make disassembly & cleaning of the baffles after fouling due to the dirty .22 rounds a piece of cake, but bentonite grease will also not melt at higher temperatures, it resists strongly being blown out (most of it just stays inside), it deadens sound inside the can (it seems to lower the tone), and it helps to cool the hot gas on it's way out.
Basically it's like shooting wet, but the effect lasts noticeably longer.

Froglube paste. It's food-grade and even smells pleasant.

Sorta seconding the Froglube notion: just coated my new Warlock 2 with Seal 1.
