I want to thread a barrel for a muzzle device, and while looking for the die, I see several types of threads:
- UNEF
- UNF
- UNC
- UNS
- NPT
I'd think UNEF would be preferable to allow a tighter seal.

Here's the link to Silencerco's specs: https://silencerco.com/product-support/#tab-4
Some where I've got Sig specs too, I'll see if I can find them.

Re: Is there an industry convention for threads?
BTW all of these thread specs assume that you cut the threads on a lathe. Cutting barrel threads with a die is a recipe for disaster. There's virtually no chance that you could get the die to cut concentric or parallel to the bore or to get the correct thread pitch measurement.mbogo wrote:I want to thread a barrel for a muzzle device, and while looking for the die, I see several types of threads:

Re: Is there an industry convention for threads?
As long as the shoulder is cut on a lathe you should be fine. The shoulder is what squares the silencer not the threads( or the muzzle on .578 45acp threads)jreinke wrote:BTW all of these thread specs assume that you cut the threads on a lathe. Re: Is there an industry convention for threads?
Thanks! I think I'll stick to sending my barrels off for threading. There are no capable gunsmiths here in Vegas or its immediate environs.
