22LR Pistol Barrel length 3.5" Vs. 5" (inches) which is better?

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

22LR Pistol Barrel length 3.5" Vs. 5" (inches) which is better?

Post by S2H »

Hello,

I would like to know if there would be a difference in suppressor db level with a 3.5" Vs. a 5" barrel length for a 22LR pistol?.

Thanks for your time

From what I've read... 4.5" is the "magic length" where high-velocity ammo is still subsonic (quiet), and accuracy is not compromised. Going to 5"-5.5" MAY allow some high-velocity stuff to go super-sonic, especially with the added length off a can.

I run a 4.5" CMMG barrel on my AR-22 Pistol, and it sounds like a stapler... and shoots thumb-nail size groups at 25 yards.

+1 for 4.5". That is what I have my pistol and SBR AR cut to and both keep standard ammo subsonic. At least, the ammo I have tested so far. Accuracy is surprisingly good, too, at reasonable ranges.
