This is my Dad's suppressor (Technically our trusts's) and he shot it a few hundred rounds last year but hasn't gotten out to shoot pretty much at all this year. So it say threaded onto the rifle that plays host for that time in a indoor safe with a heat rod to insure no excess moisture. I took it out today to disassemble and show a friend it who is considering purchasing it and found this odd buildup I've never seen before. I just put the baffles in a tumbler with ss media and hand cleaned the tube and end caps. It was a pain to get apart and clean by hand but I did get it all off.
See pic below but what would cause this?

Using the suppressor causes this, see pics below
Clean, shoot and repeat.

Re: Green/white build up on Spectre II
That makes me feel a bit better seeing those baffles. I haven't ever taken mine apart to find a color like that. It was tougher than usual to take apart and has not even been shot a whole lot. My Sparrow never looked like that so I thought it was odd. Thanks though!

The color and consistency of the crud will vary sometimes but there's nothing wrong with the can.
Regardless of color it will still be full of lead and powder residue so don't get any on your PB&J.

Re: Green/white build up on Spectre II
That is called love..as in someone has been showing the can some love and using it. Wait until you find out that there are 2 "C"s on the cone side of the baffles after all the crap is removed.
Re: Green/white build up on Spectre II
green is copper fouling. white is usually lead.
Re: Green/white build up on Spectre II
Yep .. Lead oxides/sulphides are usually white, Copper oxides are green, copper sulphates are blue, roses are red ..
Water condenses on the can internals when it cools, (Hot air contains/keeps more water vapour than cold) OR some of the powder reaction compound/residue is hygroscopic and absorbs water from the air in the can... It can create residues that are hard and difficult to remove, but depending on the material of the baffles and can, they are usually not harmfull or corroding to the can.
My Ase-Utra can (SL5 .30 ) has never been cleaned (it is welded and can not be taken apart) and seems quieter than when new .. I suspect that the crud build-up actually increases the turbulence of the gases in the can when firing ..
