Does anyone know of aj guns? They’re a North Carolina suppressor maker and make some fairly cheap suppressors. I found them when I was looking for a cheap recoil booster.
The booster uses an external and protruded thread in eirher 1/2x28 or .578x28 that threads into the cap on the suppressor. It’s made from all 316 stainless or 316l. The booster piston is not compatible with the liberty or sdta. You’ll see the lugs on it are bigger and more rounded. Here it is with photos https://ajguns.net/oc/9MM_SILENCER_BOOSTER
It weighs 7.4 oz I believe.
My concerns are as follow
The booster will act as a sort of blast chamber, so how safe will it be for High pressure and high gas volume cartridges like 460 Rowland?
The threading surface is much smaller, So how will this impact reliability vs if it was a larger outer thread of 1.180x24? Unscrewing is also a concern for me.
Weight, can will already be 20 to 25oz by itself.
The price is great and I really like the fact it’s stainless steel but the threading and confined space is worrying, as is the weight. If the added weight isn’t an issue and boosters work much better than I think, and if the pressures inside aren’t an issue then I’ll be getting it. The smaller threading surface loosening can be solved with Using a spanner wrench and some blue loctite or Teflon tape. I did call them and ask these questions and they said it should be reliable with the weight and the pressure isn’t an issue but I’d like to get a second opinion before I buy.
I’m either getting this or the sdta but the sdta is aluminum, and I’d like parts to basically last forever. I’m also unsure how aluminum will hold up to heat and pressure of 460 Rowland, especially rapid fire or bump fire on a carbine. I can’t find any info on caliber ratings or durability tests on recoil boosters, with aluminum vs steel either.
AJGuns recoil booster - anyone have it?

Are you not able to make your own booster for a form 1 can?
That thing is hideous and very heavy. I make 7" .45 cal pistol cans that barely weigh more than that with piston installed.
316L is also about as weak and soft as stainless gets. I only use heat treated 17-4 for my housings and pistons.

Yes, I’m unable to make my own, unfortunately.ECCO Machine wrote:Are you not able to make your own booster for a form 1 can?

I agree. That thing looks bulky, poorly designed, and has a terrible finish. For only a couple bucks more, I'd go w/ something along the lines of a Liberty. Also, with the AJGuns design, you require a rear adapter thus further increasing overall weight. The Liberty design threads right into the appropriate tube.

I don’t mind the looks I’m just concerned about reliability due to the protruding thread design. I did find this https://ajguns.net/oc/40SW_To_45_Silencer_BoosterT-Rex wrote:I agree. This has the outer threads. Not sure of the thread pitch though, will have to ask.
Also I will have to use an adapter no matter what, though with an outer thread design that adapter won’t weigh as much.

If you have to use something like this because of other design decisions, I'd go back and reconsider your design.
What is the plan here? There may be an easier way to get there.
If your considering a bumpfire carbine in 460 Rowland, I'd strongly suggest you lay it out for us. A carbine dosnt need a booster, 460 blowback is hard on actions, add a suppressor and you may be breaking the host.

It's not a silencer, it's a can of whoopass!

I don’t have to, it’s just that I have a budget I’d like to follow. For the price it’s either this or an sdta, sdta is aluminum vs stainless.CanOfWhooppass wrote:If you have to use something like this because of other design decisions, I'd go back and reconsider your design.

I’d use a fixed spacer mount for a carbine.

Build a dedicated 460 subgun can. Then build or buy a handgun can. If you try to combine the two it will do both jobs poorly.
Unless you've got some crazy modular design in mind, I'd start over from square 1

Re: AJGuns recoil booster - anyone have it?
Well I already have a apogee tube and zmw cones so that's not really an option and I really don't want to build a second 45 can. This is also supposed to be a 458 socom can as well.fishman wrote:Build a dedicated 460 subgun can. Then build or buy a handgun can. If you try to combine the two it will do both jobs poorly.

The weight for a dedicated 45 can would still be mostly the same, maybe 2.4 oz less heavy if I use less steel cones.

External thread version is 1 5/16 x24 for the thread pitch. Not sure if an adapter could be made for that in d cell.

Silencer Shop has a sale on the Liberty booster with a .578x28 piston for $155, and you get a free 1/2x28 piston with purchase. Here's a link: https://www.silencershop.com/accessorie ... oster.html
