If you were in the market for a 9mm can, prices and dB reduction being equal, would you rather have:
1) 1.375" diameter x 7" long, 10.5 ounces with piston
or
2) 1.250" diameter x 8" long, 9.0 ounces with piston

The one I have now is 1.375" dia, < 8" long and < 7 oz so between those two the second.
The one that's on the way is 1.375" in dia, 8" long and 10.5 oz but it handles quite a few more calibers than 9mm, albeit maybe not at the performance level of a top tier dedicated 9mm can.

With booster and piston? I don't see how, unless it uses aluminum for those parts. I've thinned out my 17-4 booster housings about as much as one would dare (.040"), and poked them full of holes, but you really just can't get under 4 ounces there with the spring and piston using steel.doubloon wrote:The one I have now is 1.375" dia, < 8" long and < 7 oz so between those two the second.
These are gr. 9 Ti housings with 17-4 booster assemblies, conical blast baffle and end cap, then 7075-T651 K baffles; four of them in the 1.375" x 7.0" and five in the 1.250" x 8.0"
The 8" can itself, with all the baffles and end cap, is just 4.9 ounces. With a Ti direct thread mount, I could stay under 6 oz. But that's still too heavy for reliable cycling of all short recoil handguns. You have to get as tiny and light as the Thompson Machine Poseidon to mitigate a booster, and even then, some pistols don't do well with that not-hearing-safe-without-wipes-and-gel suppressor.
Also, I don't go shorter than 6.5" on 9mm cans. I know the Omega 9K is technically "hearing safe", but it and similar super shorties snap my ears. I'm not interested in producing designs that require wipes or running wet, nor am I trying to just take the edge off; they have to be legitimately hearing safe. They also have to be tough and durable, which is why I don't use aluminum tubes or aluminum booster housings, as even anodized booster housings will wear as the substrate deforms and the anodic film begins to chip off. I've built eccentric and concentric aluminum prototypes at or under 5 inches and 5 ounces, but you still need ear pro to run them dry.
I do a 1.375" x 7.0" .45 cal at 10.6 ounces with piston that's .45 ACP, 10mm Auto and .357 mag rated. The 9mm of the same external dimensions is impressively quiet, but the goal here is to find out if people would prefer a shorter or slimmer can; is 1" shorter or less sight obstruction preferable? The 1.25" is slightly shorter from centerline to OD than centerline of bore to the top of the SiCo Osprey.doubloon wrote:

The booster and piston are not silencer parts why would anyone include them?ECCO Machine wrote:...

I don't always use the booster and piston when I use my 9mm suppressor.
You didn't specify which part was suppressor and which part wasn't so I did the best I could with the information at hand.

I said with piston, guess I figured people would make the leap that it also means with booster. My boosters are integral, permanent on the Phoenix series. I'm at 9.0 ounces total weight hanging off the front of your short recoil handgun.doubloon wrote: The booster and piston are not silencer parts why would anyone include them?

But what's the weight of the silencer?
I might want to put it on my rifle.

Re: 9mm can: Opinons wanted, what's your preference?
My booster assemblies with piston and spring weigh 4.2-4.9 ounces, depending on housing ID and piston thread pitchdoubloon wrote:But what's the weight of the silencer?

If I made a direct thread only version, it would be 6.5" or 7" and I expect would come in at 6-7 ounces, depending on material used for rear mount and front cap. We'd lose the weight of the booster, but the mount will have a little weight, and still need to space off the baffles a little.
With the piston, spring and rear cap removed, it's 6.8 ounces, so with a direct thread mount in place of the piston (haven't made them yet), about 7.5 ounces.

Whatever a Mystic X is... and I have about 24 cans.ECCO Machine wrote:If you were in the market for a 9mm can, prices and dB reduction being equal, would you rather have:

Longer and heavier than my "big" one.gsyoung54 wrote:
