Good day. I am very new to this forum. My rifle has a .625" OD barrel. May it safely be threaded 1/2"-28 tpi? if so what size can would I need? 30 Cal., 6.72MM? I have not seen any makers list any for the .257 caliber.
Thank you in advance!

Suppressing a .257 Weatherby Mag.
I never get lost. There is always someone wanting to tell me where to go!
Re: Suppressing a .257 Weatherby Mag.
1. If you're using supersonic ammunition, the can won't reduce the crack of the bullet in flight, only lessen the report at the muzzle.
2. Due to the volume of gases a .257 Wby. produces, you'll need a can capable of handling a .30 caliber magnum (it has larger internal volume) than a can designed for .308 Win.. Except for a custom ordered item, I am aware of no .257/.264/.284 caliber cans in the U.S,A. ;the .30 caliber cans have .
3. Is the barrel 24", 26", or some other length? Muzzle pressures may vary.

A 300 magnum rated can is what you want.
The moments I was censored was the moment that I won. That's twice, now. Thanks jwbaker, et al, for my victories.

Yes, you can thread 1/2-28 no problem. I do 1/2-28 up to .30 cal magnum on sporter profile barrels all the time.

I was also going to suggest the 6.5 ultra 9. I think there's at least one other manufacturer that does a 6.5 or 6.8 can but I can't remember who.

I hunt with a .257 Wby necked up to 6.5mm (6.5/257 Wby) I use a Thunderbeast 6.5 Ultra 7 and it sounds great. Hearing safe. Light weight. With the best modern designs, there is no need to go up to the 9" can.

Re: Suppressing a .257 Weatherby Mag.
The ultra 7 is a great can, and a good balance in size, weight and suppression, but I'd still take all the suppression I can get on an eargesplittenloudenboomer like the .257 wby. The high velocity quarterbores have a really nasty crack that makes them more offensive than some larger cartridges that meter higher SPL. If you've spent much time on other hunting boards, it's a pretty unanimous opinion that the .25-06 is an exceptionally loud round. And it makes sense if you think about it; the .25-06 and .257 wby are pretty overbore, so much higher uncorking pressures than .270, .308, .30-06.Landry308 wrote:I hunt with a .257 Wby necked up to 6.5mm (6.5/257 Wby) I use a Thunderbeast 6.5 Ultra 7 and it sounds great.
