Vorticis 45 Carbine Suppressor

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

Vorticis 45 Carbine Suppressor

Post by ECCO Machine »

Well, here it is, guys. I mentioned in another thread that I was developing a low backpressure suppressor to reduce port noise on blowback carbines. This is the first prototype, and I'd call it quite successful. I tested it on a Marlin Camp 45, which has always snapped my ears with port noise no matter what can, including my Phoenix, as well as SiCo Octane 45, Osprey 45, Rugged Obsidian 45. Likewise, my prototype 9mm folding pack rifle with a very light 12.1 ounce bolt has had significant port noise with every can I've tried. With this suppressor, port noise was reduced to the point that they sound like locked breech semi-autos.

It's primarily intended as a carbine can, the prototype 5/8-24 direct thread only, but as I continue development, I'll set it up for other mounting systems, including booster assemblies for short recoil pistols. It is a fully welded 17-4 core in a gr. 9 Ti housing. Really can't make this design user serviceable, but because of that, it should have no problem with centerfire rifle as well, though I haven't tested it on the M16 yet.

It's 1.5" x 8" and 13.8 ounces.

Is the design of the internals public at this point (or ever)?

Maybe one day, but I'm gonna be pretty tight lipped on it right now. I'm not aware of any other can on the market that's even similar inside, and don't really want my IP ripped off by another mfr.

Where's it at? I'd love to, along with the half dozen others I have ready to market, but I'm still on a working class budget and have a new daughter coming in just a few weeks (child #4 in my home), so this fall is gonna be tough.

I've never been to one because I'm too lazy to travel but the next one is tentatively planned for the houston-ish area end-ish of October.

They usually try to have a couple-three a year but if anyone from the board with a meter lives anywhere near you arrangements can sometimes be made to meter your can and add it to the database.

ECCO_M, Standing O for design, good sounding results, and
efficient presentation. Much success, Sir.

As for your " ...I tested it on a Marlin Camp 45 ... " congratulations
for having one that has not split the barrel 'along the dotted line'
at the front sight starting from the back drill screws to
the front as mine did many years ago out of the box. :)

After firing about 50 rounds the front sight ejected hitting
the tin roof bringing back memories of the twang from my Garand's ejection.

Marlin happily took it back for full refund and no questions.

Will you be posting a video of the 45 test? I would love to see how it sounds on a 45.

I'll try to remember that one next time out!

It's a little louder on the Camp 45, similar to the difference between 9mm subs and .45 hardball in any can. It's perfectly tolerable, far quieter than with any other can I've put on it.
