brugger&thomett silencer baffles

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

I seriously doubt if it's a silencer, why would anyone silence an artillery piece? Assuming it can be done.
Besides doesn't look like the silencer can elevate or depress, so it would have to fire from a fixed elevation, which wouldn't be of much use in combat.
I'd hazard a guess that it could be ballistic test/analysis equipment, to check muzzle blast, projectile spin and velocity. Maybe to evaluate the effectiveness of the muzzle brake and to measure blast wave force impact, on the artillery system and guncrew.
Just my thoughts.... I'm open to correction.

That is a 120mm howitzer silencer. I read the description on the German web page it was posted on.

They can quiet those big boys down, a few years ago I was reading an article in a pop science mag. that the Navy was having problems with people on an island who were complaining of being disturbed from their practice with the ships guns, so what the Navy did was weld 55 gallon drums on the muzzles and then line the drums with grease to diminish the report, everyone was happy again.
But while they didn't say I guess they had to regrease the drums for every shot, expensive shooting!

Does the military need to file a form to do that?

I'd like to see how it compares to other howitzer suppressors on the market.

This is a howitzer suppressor located at Rheinmetall DeTec testing area in Unterluess, Germany.
I think it's to avoid problems with citizens living near by.
