Honestly, not much. Especially with the completed builds thread.LavaRed wrote:Hey there! How's it going? What have I missed?

If you've got anything to contribute, im sure I speak for more than just myself saying that we'd love to see it.

Silence is NOT golden when it is a friend not writing.
Glad to hear from you.
Hope you eventually make a 9.5" x 1" I.D. .22 suppressor and give us
results.

Well... you'll be pleased to know I recently completed a Ruger Mk. I Integral build. It isn't a very original subject, and I did reuse a core design, but I trialed a couple of features I'd wanted to for a while. It wasn't impressive, but it wasn't bad either. I'll post pics in a while.

Re: Hi guys!
Hey Vera, good to see you checking back here. It has indeed been rather slow, with the annoying exception of a few dozen pages of Chinese spam for a week or two recently. I've missed your contributions, as I stopped visiting nfatalk. Too much testosterone around that place.
Hey, wasn't you who was trying the 'Hush hole' experiments with that variable length .22lr suppressor? Can't recall for sure but it seems from fuzzy memory it might have been you. I put together a little 1" OD K can for a .22lr pistol and ended up happiest with the sound with a 1/16" hole at the second baffle from the front cap. 5 x 7075 K baffles 0.55" long plus 0.75" spacer for the blast volume for an inside length of 3.5", OAL of 4.5" as it's on an ancient pistol with no shoulder and needs an inch of barrel to index on, including threads.. It's quite comfortably quiet indoors with CCI SV out of a 4" barrel. Anyway, if the info about the Hush hole was from you, thanks. And if not (I do also recall an experiment with a CF tube and ultrs-light baffles, right?) it's just always good to chat with folks who do silencer tinkering. Fun stuff, and perfectly harmless.

Hey! How have you been? Yeah, it was me who finally rendered Mr. Hush's knowledge unto reality. I still have that can, but it has since been superseeded by the lightweight CF tube/Ti core generation of cans. Your memory is flawless!a_canadian wrote:Hey Vera, good to see you checking back here. Re: Hi guys!
Well yes, things become outdated, and with your obvious leaning towards innovation, both personal and in suppressor design (couldn't help myself), it would be surprising if that old experimental model were still your main thing. Thanks again for the insights brought from that experiment, which seems to have been quite effective in the case of my very little .22lr can.
Doing okay myself though my eagerness to come up with new ways to make .22lr and airguns quieter has slowed somewhat. Life's busy. But I continue to check in here and tinker with the odd project... a suppressed .22lr cane is almost finished, just figuring out how to integrate the sear rod with the handle neatly before I spend a day or so cranking out K baffles to fill the long tube. That one should be very quiet indeed. A bit fussy to reload, but it has a sprung extractor so I won't be picking brass out of the breech with a pocket knife.

Re: Hi guys!
Have you consider a miniaturized lever action within the cane? One could, theoretically, fit both a 1/2" thick barrel, and a 3/8"diameter magazine rod within a 1.00" OD metal pipe, after which a lever- actuated loading ramp could be fitted, etc. In this case you'd have to use asymmetrical baffles, but, it should be nice, elegant, and practical.a_canadian wrote:Well yes, things become outdated, and with your obvious leaning towards innovation, both personal and in suppressor design (couldn't help myself), it would be surprising if that old experimental model were still your main thing. Re: Hi guys!
The idea of asymmetrical baffles and an offset barrel appeal to me, but with my very humble equipment - a miniature TAIG lathe with a crude milling attachment, and a wobbly drill press - making anything relatively sophisticated such as offset-bore K baffles is unlikely. I could try making a 7075 monocore... but probably not, as the lathe would vibrate so much as to throw the rod out of the little 4-jaw where it's held to only about 3/4" depth. No, not going to happen. As for a lever action multi-shot, that's okay, I'm a single shot guy. Don't have any need for quick reloading. It's just a hobby thing, something to do when I need a break from work, design challenges to provide a bit of distraction.
Re: Hi guys!
For .22LR, you could literally cast a monocore in hard plastic. No joke.a_canadian wrote:The idea of asymmetrical baffles and an offset barrel appeal to me, but with my very humble equipment - a miniature TAIG lathe with a crude milling attachment, and a wobbly drill press - making anything relatively sophisticated such as offset-bore K baffles is unlikely. Re: Hi guys!
I've made a few in acetal rod. Not offset bore, just trying ideas. They held up fine to subs. Not impressive in sound reduction though.
