Government Shutdown and Filing Times...

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

Government Shutdown and Filing Times...

Post by JeffWard »

From what I understand... the examiners who run background checks for Form 4s at ATF are on the list of "non-essential" employees...

Would the fucking Democrats pass this s--t, so I can get my new suppressor (check cashed 9/11/18) some time before 2020?

Thanks...
Jeff

You have been dealing with nfa long enough that you should understand that they don't care if you never get your paperwork back signed. Just more job security for them having a back log.

I also suppose this has killed the fast return times for e-filing too.

I have a F1 laying in the bottom of someones pile collecting dust too. Mailed toward the end of October sometime that I'm not holding my breath getting anytime soon.

According to an article on the web dealer and manufacturer forms are being process by a reduced staff hoping to get paid one day but consumer form 1's and 4' are gathering dust.

If someone were to wait to submit a form 1 or 4 they'd just be farther down the list when the processing starts again.

ETA: A different article from yesterday.

https://www.guns.com/news/2019/01/10/mo ... t-shutdown
“ASA can confirm that the NFA Division is not processing tax-paid transfers during the shutdown,” said the group.

However, while the applications have stalled, the payments sent in for tax stamps on NFA transfers are still being processed by Bank of America, as part of their contract with the government, as the financial institution itself is not affected by the shutdown. Once the checks are cashed, the forms are still heading to the NFA Division where they are piling up.

In all fairness and honesty, any form submitted more than a day prior to the shutdown, should already be processed.

But I'm not holding my breath that would ever happen.

Shortest wait that I ever had was 5 weeks back in 2004 for a form 1 sbr IIRC.

If the P365 is any indication there is no need to wonder.

Unlike the state of the union gun sales are good.

We heard that they were processing the Form 3's and the 5320.20 paperwork, but I think that too has no stopped.

Source?

ETA:
Searched around and was able to find hearsay indicating some dealers are seeing delays in Form 3's and one that says the ATF is primarily processing only Form 5's for transfers to government and law enforcement agencies.

I couldn't find anything official from the ATF or even anything secondhand from the ATF.

We have a number of manufacturers who frequent this site, at least some of which have good connections into the ATF. Maybe one of them has something they could share to provide some clarity on the topic.

We are an SOT dealer too and haven't seen any ATF Form 3's in a week or more. We also have heard that the "ATF primarily processing only Form 5's for transfers to government and law enforcement agencies" too, but for everyone else the paperwork processing has essentially stopped. How long can this shutdown go on? I can only guess how much ATF Paperwork backlog they will have and how that will effect processing timelines for the ATF Paperwork.

I had 3 with checks cashed in March 2018. I figured I was doomed. Within a few days of the reopening, I got calls on all three of them. Picked them up last week.

Efile form 1’s are pretty quick. Mine was submitted 1/22/19, approved 2/15/19. Not bad.

my last two stamps I got back just a few weeks ago took 14 months total. I had to call and get the examiner and explain how long it had been and that I've already got a bunch of stamps and it magically got approved a week or two after that.
