ultrasonic cleaning???

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

I use a 1.3 liter (a little small) and a 3 liter (about right) that came from China via Amazon. Both were cheap and work well. I run mine hot, about 75C and use water with a few ounces of Oven, Grill & Fryer Cleaner. It'll remove just about anything, including dissolving any aluminium or Cerokote from parts and I suspect the skin from my fingers. I usually do two 30 minute cycles, with a solution change between. The second cycle is mostly just cleaning off the muddy first. Really effortless and spotless.

I often use HOT water and Dawn dishwashing detergent on most things.

Slip2000 carbon cleaner sucks. Makes everything sticky. Probably from the orange/citrus juice in it. ??

Auto Transmission Fluid Dex3 works really well for seized parts.

I recently rebuilt an old JC Higgins bolt action 12 gauge that was found in the trunk of a 1963 Rambler for decades and it freed up the firing pin/bolt well enough so that I didn't even have to disassemble it and replace the firing pin spring and stuff to get it firing again.
I don't care what your chart says

30 minutes in my SS wet tumbler/Harbor Freight rock tumbler does a better job than my USC. Hot water, SS pins, dawn, lemi-shine, new rubber band for the motor because I know it'll break as soon as I walk away and in 30 minutes....purty.

I have a old metal Hornady ultrasonic cleaner, the harbor freight cheap ones will work too. I use the Hornady brand cleaner "One shot Cleaner" for gun parts. I know some people also use purple power cleaner too they all work pretty good on my stainless steel baffles. I then run them threw a tumbler they come out looking new.

Just an FYI: Not cleaning Aluminum in an ultrasonic bath is a myth, most often seen in gun/silencer forums. You can absolutely put Aluminum parts in an ultrasonic cleaner. It's done every day on Medical and Aerospace parts. It comes down to frequency and the solvents being used. The homeowner grade ones being discussed have a low probability to destroy the metal. This comes down to the cleaners you use. Mild soap and water to citric acid should be fine for Al.

I use a cheap Harbor Freight cleaner and a 50/50 mix of Purple Power and water. Works pretty good on my Sparrow.

Hello!
I am brand new to the forum and this is my first post!

I have the SWR Spectre and the Tyrant 45. I have had the Spectre for a few years and always just cleaned it the hard way, with gun solvent, rags, plastic brushes and elbow grease. I've never gotten it to look new again that way.
The Tyrant I have only had a month or so and haven't cleaned yet.

I just got the Harbor Freight ultra sonic cleaner.

My Spectre hasn't been cleaned in awhile. Maybe that is why its SO quiet. Used on a Walther PPK 22LR, it is super quiet.
It didn't used to be, LOL.

So I imagine I have a lot to clean and a big job ahead of me. This can is probably SUPER dirty!
I've heard the issues with Aluminum too, I don't want to take any chances. Is the tube of the suppressor made of aluminum? I know there are rubber seals that probably would not do well in the ultra sonic cleaner I presume?
So just the baffle stack into the ultra sonic cleaner with Purple Power?
The baffles look anodized when they were new, are they steel?

Also the Tyrant 45 probably needs cleaning too. Its on a 9mm MPX.

So my questions to the forum are:

What type of cleaner should not be used? I have simple green, is that bad? Or should I go buy the purple power?

What parts on my suppressors should I NOT be putting into the ultra sonic cleaner?

One other non suppressor question, what about putting an entire rifle bolt into this? Or just the entire barrel of the Walther? Is there any reason that would hurt the inner workings of the bolt? (Or barrel)? I just don't want to ruin something.

Thanks so much, I'm sure glad this forum is here, there is much I don't know about suppressors and I need to learn.

So you just soak it in the Aerocroil and the Hoppe's? No ultra sonic cleaning?

Aerocroil is my GO-TO! I love that stuff!

Well the ultra sonic cleaning of my SWR Spectre, went great. Looks new.

However the Tyrant 45 didn't go so well.
Apparently the can part, the baffle tube is not parkerized like the SWR must be.
I cleaned the baffles and all and it went OK. Not as clean as the SWR came out.

But the tube, which I only had in there for less than 4 minutes, came out bare metal. The black is all gone. I thought it was some sort of parkerization or something. Must be painted.

Not sure what to do with that now.

Unfortunately that would be the High Temperature Cerakote finish that came off. I never clean the outside tube in the ultrasonic cleaner on my can. Yours is made of aluminum and titanium on the Ti-Rant and as you unfortunately found out shouldn't be cleaned that way. Stainless steel is fine for ultrasonic cleaning and that is the baffle part of the can. You can try contacting AAC and see what they say about it. But again, I'm sorry you had that happen to you.
