Cam Lock System?

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

Cam Lock System?

Post by VLODPG »

Can anyone tell me what the AWC two piece "Cam Lock" system is all about?

I have a AWC can thats about to go in for a repair & I wanted to know what their locking system composed of. Im tired of the can loosing up no matter now much I check, it loosens up & gets the end cap deformed.

Thanks in advance!

Update! Comming back from repair w/cam lock.

The AWC Cam Lock system is a Nord-Lock washer (http://www.nord-lock.com/).

They work very well for keeping non QD cans snug.

Thanks Mike!
I have benn out of the game for a few years.I have a few AWC cans that have given good service even though I've put them thru more than they probally were designed for. No matter how much I checked them(The old heavy leather glove method) they never seemed to loosen up till I went thru a mag without checking & then it's time to fix the endcap again!

My repaired can will be on it's way back to me in a few weeks. I hope the Nord-Lock system will keep it from loosing up. I cant afford to be having these things repaired from baffle strikes but I didn't want to waste 2 tax stamps.

I will also have to resist the multiple auto mag dumps.

What if one were to purchase washers from nordlock?Would that be as effective as sending can back to AWC to install can lock? Also, what size washers are needed for an Ingram and the two stage can in 9mm?
Thanks.

I've had my Raider for about 5 months with the cam lock.Trust me its not gonna loosen. I have to put the upper in a vise and use a strap wrench in order to loosen it enough to turn by hand. The can has been put through its paces and trust me it will not loosen with the cam lock properly installed.

Heavy burst fire & I let a buddy do a few a few mag dumps.

The can loosened & wiped out the end cap & baffels. The can was still usable but not as quiet with a damaged endcap.
When I was a dealer, I sold a few AWC cans & they held up without issues as long as they were kept tight.

I tend to abuse suppressors so with that in mind when these cans come back, I will put one on a bolt gun, keep the 2nd can on my 20"AR & the MG might get a Surefire can. I have heard great things from people I know who own them & I think it their Surefires would have blown up by now if it was going to.

Just purchase them yourself. AWC just sends them with the can, in a baggie stapled to the instruction manual.

Just got my cans back today. I will add my $.02 to how well the cam lock washers secure the supressor & on how quiet the latest AWC internals sound!

Funny you should ask. Yesterday I was going to take it to the range but got caught up in so much "family stuff" I didn't have a chance.
I took my Thundertrap gutted can out last week & was putting some port ball thru it(rem700 host). Since I have nothing to compare it to so it is difficult to rate suppression qualities, but the whap of the impact is the loudest part of the shot.

My friend looked at my can & the 1st thing out of his mouth was "solid"

He has a screw on AAC can & my can has more weight to it for shure. I am looking foward to hitting the range with him to compare.

I have to agree with you about the "WHAP"...it amazes me everytime I shoot my Raider.

VLODPG, you had your Raider rebuilt by AWC? Is that correct?
