Storm Lake barrel trouble

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

Storm Lake barrel trouble

Post by st33ve0 »

Just got my new XD9 Storm Lake threaded barrel...but it rattles inside the gun. I'm not sure if I need to take it to a gunsmith or what...should this be a big issue or just impact accuracy?

can you physically see the barrel moving around in the slide while in battery? do you know what it's rattling against. it's been awhile since i had a xd and I can't recall how everything fits together, but i wouldn't shoot it if it has that poor of a fit.

have you just assembled it just with the slide, barrel, and mainspring to see how the barrel's fitting? does it rattle at this point or does it start when you put it on the frame.

I'll have to play with it when I get home. But I measured the stock and storm lake barrels with some calipers and the storm lake is 10 thousandths thinner on the sides and the part that the mainspring fits onto is 13 thousandths thinner. I've sent an email about it to storm lake. Hopefully we can work something out.

Hope so, still waiting for a reply. The side that doesn't have the storm lake logo was obviously ground by a belt grinder and I would much rather have had it left with more material.
