Looking for opinions on whether it's a good idea or not to share a .223 can between .223 AR rifles and a .22LR upper'd AR?
Obviously this would be a substantial savings over buying a can for each caliber but I'm looking for the pros and cons of going this route.
Thanks
Sharing a can w/2 calibers?

This is generally a bad idea for a few reasons.
Leading up your can and not being able to clean it.
Firing .223 after firing .22 and getting a baffle strike because of pieces of lead flaking off.
Just buy 2 and be done with it.

I wouldn't share calibers with a .22 rifle can. You have people on both sides of the fence on this issue, so here is my side. I believe in take apart .22 cans. The .22 round is super dirty and will lead up the can. You need to be able to take it apart and clean or bead blast it every once in awhile. If you buy a sealed unit you will have to send it back to the manufacturer to be cleaned. Buy a take apart and be done with it.

Ok, I'm now convinced it's not a good idea to run .22LR through one's .223 can.
Now I need to decide on a take-down type or not. I've had 1 maker claim it's not needed as their .22LR can is able to maintain proper operation up to 100,000 rnds through it. I'm heavily leaning toward a take down can but then again non-availability could play a role in which one I end up buying.
Also, I do have a .308, so that's an interesting point about sharing a .308 can with my .223 rifles...hadn't even though about that (although that'd be way down the road).
Appreciate the comments!

One more thing to consider about using a centerfire .223 can for .22LR is that your centerfire can's warranty will be voided if the manufacturer finds any indication of leading in the can. Just another reason to have a .22LR can for .22LR and nothing else.

Don't let someone talk you into that. You wouldn't believe how dirty a can is after 1K rounds. There are plenty of dealers on here that could probably save you a lot of money. My .22 TAC 65 cost me less than the stamp. It's a great can, but if I had to do over again I would go with a SWR Spectre or AAC Element.

I use my 308 can on my AR-15 .223 and on my 260 rem.
Works VERY well! John T has the DB #'s on is pay site. The 308 can on the 223 is not that much different than a .223 can. EXCEPT it IS heavier. I get less blow back however. An advantage as well.
Saves me $1000 and makes me smile when I shoot my ar with it. Hard to NOT shoot with it now. It does run a little dirty with it.
But when you take it off and shot w/o it .. first thing I notice is how light it is .. and then how much that little bugger BARKS! Yep, a 5.56 NATO is LOUD after shooting with the can all AM.

Long distance, the next best thing to being there!
