.338 Spectre

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

Still need to pick out what rail I want, I'm leaning towards a Troy 10" MRF.
I will post some pics soon.
m16maniac, how long did it take you to get your barrel from teppojutsu ?

I've been emailing Marty for weeks now and the process is really slow.
I'm by no mean comlplaining and i'm sure Marty is busy, but he said he has all the parts in stock.. so all I want to do is pay him and get these shipped..

I thought the hard part was going to be the dies and making the rounds .. but even after CH tool messed up my order for 2 weeks , I still got all the brass, the dies, and even bullets that were backordered and already have a batch of test ammo ready to go..

how long was the process for you?

well, I just ordered a side charging upper for my 338 Spectre built..

no charging handle on the back (no gas in the face) . this should make the manual loading (when using the on/off gas block ) easier.

check it out .. whatcha all think?

It took about 8 months to get the barrel and a little less to get the ammo.

Is Marty still in business? I have been trying to contact them via e-mail and have received no responses. Anyone knows? Want to get a Contender barrel re-chambered for .338 Spectre but no love from Teppo. Can anyone direct me to a better way to contact them or a different shop that can mod my barrel?

Mary is awesome, I'm working on something similiar for the AK platform, and he was very generous with info and resourses. Even though he knew it would result in "0" sales for him. 8)

Dammit, I should never have clicked on this thread. :|

Is the 3-lug a necessity? Or can the trident be used with the thread-on only attachment as an alternative?

How about a little more info. I sent an email to the maker, havn't heard back yet.

So I already have the can, an SBR as well. Is it just a straight barrel/bolt swap? Or is there more to it? I see the side chargers, do I need a whole new upper?

Thanks,,,

The side charging upper is to get away from the charging handle gas escape issue some people have. It's not required.

If you can build a normal upper, a 338 Spectre build should be no issue for you.

barrel , bolt and you're in business.. I also opted for his on/off gas block and tube, so I can get a super quiet shot with no action noise... the rest is just a regular ar receiver etc.. just liked the side charger for mine because of my single shot idea .. it makes it easier to cycle the gun without loosing cheek weld ...

Hey folks!

Sorry for diggin that kinda old thread out but I thought it would be the right one for asking my questions and at least it shows that there are people who actually use the search function ^^

@ all the men that use to shoot 300SMKs or Scenars:
What twist rate are you using and what results are you gaining?
According to millers twist rule even a 1in10 barrel should stabilize a 300grain smk but... well... ya know "in theory there is no difference between theory and pactice. But in practice there is...." (Yogi Berra)

I'm planning on building a .338BR bolt action (.338BR because of the .308 bolt face since I already got a Savage action for that purpose). What would be the longest barrel lenght to use before runnin in the danger of bullets getting stuck? (use without suppressor) I know that will also be influenced by the powder used, I tend to use VV N110 or something similiar because of the good reports someone made here...

thanks

mine is a 6.5 twist .. the reason is to stabilize sub sonic really long bullets for the 338 Spectre..

a .338 br is supersonic right? so your twist rate can be much less if you push the bullet much faster..

the 338 Spectre is a necked down 10mm magnum pistol case ,that cycles and feed in AR15's ...

don't think we're taking about the same animal...

.338BR/whispers parent case is a necked up 7mmBR / shortened .308 necked down to .338. Should have about the same case capacity as the .338 Spectre.
I'm also planning on using it for heavy subsonic bullets (300gr SMK/Scenar/Hybrid) for the most part, but got issues finding the right barrel twist. Theory says a 1in8 should be perfectly fine (Sg of about 2.27 with 300g SMK) but practise tells people are tending to use that very fast twist 6.5 barrels... so i'm kinda confused...

As said, application will be a .338 300grain subsonic bolt action rifle. The caliber beeing .338BR/Whisper, so performance wise very similar to a .338 Spectre.

well Mark at teppojutsu recommended 6.5 twist on my SBR .. and he's the 388 Spectre guru.. better safe than sorry if you're going to shoot suppressed ..

So that fast twist is used for eliminating the chance of baffle strikes in a suppressor, not because a 1in8 barrel wouldn't be able to stabilize those heavy bullets...?
