Shot the suppressed Hi-Point 995/Trident today. Good and Bad

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

Shot the suppressed Hi-Point 995/Trident today. Good and Bad

Post by rugerglocker »

Bad news is that it wasn't as quiet as I thought it would be.

Good news was that it was mostly action noise, and maybe some of the 147s going transonic, as it was 30'F.

And Steve at ADCO did a great job on the barrel, turn around was literally a few days.

So the point is, now I want a single shot 9mm rifle of some kind, does that even exist? Anyone know of one? I think single shot will be real quiet because I held the changing handle while I shot and it was pretty damn quiet, but that handle kicks back real hard and now my hand is sore from shooting a few mags like that.

Thanks

Thompson Center Contender or Encore would make a good single shot - I'd just SBR it so you can use pistol barrels with your stock

Here is a little trick for the 995's. You can "tune" the action by adding lead tape to the bolt. There is room on the bolt under the top cover to add several strips.

It reduced the cyclic rate and I was able to add enough so it wouldn't cycle 115 grain ammo. Perhaps you could try this to at least reduce the action noise on the carbine with your heavy loads and the backpressure of the suppressor. I did it at the time so the gun wouldn't shoot flame out the ejection port when I was experimenting with hot 9mm loads.

Be sure to degrease the outside of the bolt though so the tape will stick good.

As noted - get a pistol barrel. And then get one of their sales prices on short barrels made from left over stubs. http://www.bullberry.com/pistolsale.html.

Another thought is to get a .357 Contender / Encore barrel and shoot .38 Spl. through it. That should be really quiet too. With that you can find factory subsonic ammo more easily, and you can get a rifling twist that is more appropriate for heavier (than 9mm) bullets.

ya maybe I'll have to just plunk down some cash, can't have everything be as cheap as a hi-point (thats probably a good thing). Actually I could justify the money if its quality stuff, I have just never held any T/C stuff in my hands.

Think outside the box a little more and you have options like
38special
357mag

I have a $225 single shot H&R handi rifle threaded 1/2x28 then I use a three lug adapter from TROS and 3lug my Trident. It is silly quiet, since there is no action noise.

This is a great set up if you reload because you can load 180grain sub sonic 357 mag loads. Talk about a thump.

Of course there is the whole 38 special sub sonic loads as well many of which will stay subsonic in a 16" barrel.
