The New Thompson Machine Zephyr XL Endcap Pic's - Wow!!

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

1.00" for the Zephyr and 1.125 for the Zephyr XL.

You can check out all the specs for the Z and the ZXL here (photos have not been updated yet):

Does their website show up dark for everyone else too? Really annoying. Almost as bad as Silencerco's Flash.

Any idea how these sound next to a SWR Spectre? I'd imagine with the XL's extra size it would be quieter?

Sure . I have the same core in the can that is permanently attached to my GSG-5 . I also own a Spectre and shot it side by side against the Thompson can before I welded the Thompson tube on. The Spectre is quieter. Not a huge difference but definitely quieter.

Here is me shooting the regular Zephyr next to a Spectre with the same host. The Zephyr has a little first round pop. Besides that, they sound the same. I have a ZXL on the way but I hear it has no first round pop. I will be sure to verify when I get the ZXL.

If it doesn't splatter, shatter, burst or explode, it's not worth shooting.

Thanks YugoRPK- that is surprising, figured the Zephyr would have been quieter due to the increased size.

strobro32- not to get off topic but how is the FRP on the Spectre?

The new Z and ZXL's with the flat back cores have very very little to no FRP. Noticable difference from the slant back ZXL's.

Size only does so much. The Spectre is a reactive silencer. Gases get directed against themselves to disrupt the flow. The Thompson can uses simple V or wedge shaped baffles that don't move the air flow much.

To be fair I don't get much FRP out of the Thompson can and my tube is longer than the Zephyr XL with the same length core.
