The Dip w/ pics
I decided to snap some pics as i cleaned out my silencer last night. I put 333 winchester bulk pack and 100 remington subsonics through it since the last cleaning.
right after i pushed the stack out of the tube
the big chunks from touching it with the knife- no hard scraping done
getting ready to dip
after a few minutes
about 30 minutes later
the next morning (about 10 hours soak time)
I took them out, rinsed them off, let them dry, then the remaining residue will come off with a paper towel.

Re: The Dip w/ pics
I put an light bulb touching the jar and it heats and bubbles much faster.
NFA shooters blow their load with only one pull of the trigger.
Re: The Dip w/ pics
thats a good idea. i thought a stainless steel tumbler with the dip might make them squeaky clean as well by shaking off the residue once it's loosened up

I've always wondered what this looked like. I'm deciding which .22 suppressor to get next (thinking 22Sparrow). Thanks for the pics!

Is that your kitchen?
Re: The Dip w/ pics
i scraped off (kinda stupidly) the chunks right next to the sink then cleaned the s--t out of it. I leave the dip outside, but i brought it in for a few seconds to snap the pics. I wear gloves and goggles, and use tongs. My pics don't do me justice for appearing to be safe.

I didn't know that heat made it go faster - that's good info....David Hineline wrote:I put an light bulb touching the jar and it heats and bubbles much faster.

Re: The Dip w/ pics
interesting, i had my Spectre baffels in the dip for around 24 hours and still had to use some elbow greese with a tooth brush and breakfree to get them spotless.
Re: The Dip w/ pics
I've cleaned mine several times since I bought since the day I took it out of the box it has never been, and will likely never again be, spotless.

Re: The Dip w/ pics
What is the byproduct of the dip? I hear how everone says how nasty it is. I take it you don't want this on your skin? Where would one dispose of it? Thanks

Re: The Dip w/ pics
Lead acetate... Need to handled accordingly.. It is a toxin.. As is used motor oil, cigarettes and Splenda..2phast4u wrote:What is the byproduct of the dip? I hear how everone says how nasty it is. I take it you don't want this on your skin? Where would one dispose of it? Thanks
Many cities have a hazardous disposal location.. Our city will only allow the public to drop off on something the 3rd Thursday of each month..
I plan on storing the solution until I have enough to worry with in my shop, labelled appropriately..
Re: The Dip w/ pics
Is everyone familiar with adding salt once you are finished to neutralize the lead acetate?

Very nerdy thread on detoxifying dip. Warning, you might feel dumb if you go there...

It's not a silencer, it's a can of whoopass!
Re: The Dip w/ pics
Silly question, why why wouldn't you have just stopped after light scraping with the knife?
Isn't cleaning a can all about getting the extra volume back that the residue has taken away? Looks like you got a lot out with probably less than 10 minutes worth of work and no toxic mess.
Aren't (slightly) dirty cans quieter?
