Suppressed Mini-30 - Good, Bad?

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

Suppressed Mini-30 - Good, Bad?

Post by seattlite »

Hello,

Can anyone share their experiences/thoughts/comments with suppressing a mini-30? Will a 762-SD be too heavy for the stock barrel? Anyone get their mini-30 or mini-14 threaded by Tornado Tech?

Early 90's Mini-30...muzzle seems too nakid:

Any and all comments will be greatly appreciated.

Regards.

I have one sitting here too... thought about it but don't know the Good/Bad of the project.
I'm interested in knowing as well.

The blow back and action noise would be a real concern to me. I doubt it would be nearly as pleasant to shoot as say an AR would.

You have anyone in mind to do the threading? I'm just right up the road from ya...maybe TT or other can work on our barrels at the same time.

I can't speak on the Mini-30 specifically, but since its action is based on an M1 Garand/.30 Carbine/M1A design I can say this. The M1A's I had were pretty rough as far as blowback and action noise. Now this was with the older designed AWC Spectrum 2000 not one of the newer variants available from various sources, so maybe someone can chime in on the their experience with M1A style actions and new cans.

send it to accuracy systems inc and have them thread the barrel or put a better barrel on it, and then get their adjustable gas block. Thats my plan for my mini 14 when some more money comes my way.

Is there enough room for some 5/8-24 threads and an AAC 51T Brakeout or Brake. I have a local gunsmith that could thread the Mini 30's barrel. Any advice you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Can't you buy the "tactical" model that comes threaded now?

I think it would be a neat idea. I am not a fan of the MINI platform but have a 14 and 30. Maybe suppressed would recapture my attention.
If you are using optics you could make some type of reflex can. I do not think threading just the end of the barrel would be such a good idea. Not a lot of thread for the amount of weight hanging on the end of the barrel.

For me the AK over the 30 for cleaning and the AR over the 14 for accurate. Both for magazines too.

I agree with the heavy barrel and adjust gas but then you have a heavy gun that still not practical for money spent.

Carlos use the M14 for a while.
