Suppressor improvements?

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

Suppressor improvements?

Post by Kip42 »

What improvements will show in the next 10 years of suppressor design? I am wondering before I grab an AAC element for my .45 and an AAC762 can.

You might consider a different can for the .45. I don't think the element suppresses .45 that well.

10 years is a huge window too... safe to say there will be something better by then. ;)

- Moister injection during each shot as in a squirt gun to lower Db. Analog injector
to gas piston in M1 Carbine 'impulse' drive.

- Expandable portions of suppressor walls as Dardick's Tround to reduce pressure.

[ Wikipedia: "Dardick's patent 2,865,126, issued in late 1958, is for a new and improved cartridge for the open chamber gun. Unlike the previous open chamber cartridge, this version shows the symmetrical tround shape, which would facilitate feeding from a magazine, since the trounds can enter the split in any orientation and end up seating correctly. This reduced the complexity and cost of the open chamber firearm design, making it feasible for commercial production. The trounds were constructed of either high strength plastic or aluminum to provide strength[1]. While trounds were only commercially available as cartridges suitable for handguns, prototype military trounds were made in larger calibers." ]

- Stealth/metallic colloidal absorbing material with reactive properties - as catalytic converters in car. Porous 'fractal' cast material
which has same volume as a monocore but, as in biological lung tissue, has larger surface area for absorption/ multi-turbulence vector break downs.

- Sweepers made from new cooking silicone material ... leather is so dated and better on a woman, anyway. :)

- And, appropriating [ censored ] material from the Skunk Works .... OOps. You do not yet have that level of clearance. Sorry.

For now you would not throw the .45 Osprey Suppressor out of bed. And there are also a few others that are equally acceptable and
good but the Sci-Fy Osprey design drives some of us bonkers. Monsieur Morin's French silencer, anyone?

I already did that :D . It's in the works with my next rimfire design and should be completed in a few weeks :D.

Improvements for the next 10 years? Hopefully they become untaxed, de-regulated and lose the import restrictions. The flow of high-quality imported suppressors for $200-300 total would drive down the prices of the rest of the US companies. Plus, those companies wouldn't have to pay for as much labor to track and file paperwork, and those people could focus on cranking out suppressors even faster.
So the Libyan Fable is told
That once an eagle, stricken with a dart,
Said, when he saw the fashion of the shaft,
"With our own feathers, not by others' hands,
Are we now smitten."

Waiting 10yrs for silencers to get better, the most drastic improvement will probably be in the hearing aid tech, that you will need by then waiting for proper sound reduction.

Thanks :D

It all depends on the ability of the machinist to make or source a very fine brass injection needle, and hope I got all the calculations right. :)

Look at an automotive store for carburetor rebuilding kits, such as for the old Subarus. You will find
a few jets there as starters.

Feliz Navidad, if appropriate.

I think you will continue to see improved mounting options for suppressors. There may be a limit to how small and light a suppressor can practicaly be, but I suspect smaller and lighter than today. Maybe we'll see good dry suppression for a 45 pistol.

I don't know what we'll see, but I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Hey Bud,

FYI, One piece baffle stacks are nothing new what so ever!

There just more available now from more manufactures.....

Personally I'd like to see a reliable quick attach method for centerfire pistol suppressors. Something I can use on a pistol not just subguns.

The ability of the user to "tune" a silencer to a particular firearm/load.

I think advances in composites will start filtering down to silencer design.

New erosion resistant light baffles (Ceramics maybe) for center-fire pistols.

Same for full auto ... High temp resistance and no erosion Metal will be so "yesterday"
Long distance, the next best thing to being there!
