AR-7 / Henry Survival Rifle Threaded Barrel?
Looking for a decent threaded barrel in matte black that will still fit into the butt stock. Anyone have any suggestions? Pics? Experience with this? Just got one of these rifles and want to put a suppressor on it. The original barrel has a plastic coating around it and getting it threaded looks to not be an option. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks I contacted them and they sent me the info. They said I just needed to throw a little duracoat on the barrel, but they were accurate and a decent barrel.Jimmy_Jr wrote:https://www.hi-desertdog.com/index.php? ... ductId=291
I found this place too. http://ar7.imoutdoorshosting.com/store/page89.html Check out #80, if it only fit in the butt stock, I would get it threaded! I like the scope mount, I am not a fan of the 3/8 dove tail groove.
Re: AR-7 / Henry Survival Rifle Threaded Barrel?
That would be pretty cool to setup an AR7 with a threaded barrel, I might just order the threaded barrel from Hi-desert dog in the future. Thanks for the links.

Re: AR-7 / Henry Survival Rifle Threaded Barrel?
I have a brand new target bull barrel #84 that I was going to thread but I sold the rifle. Its brand new and tapped for a Cantilever Mount with 7/8" Rail. I was gonna sell it but might get another Henry.
One company used to make a factory tapered aluminum barrel with steel liner. If you could get it threaded like aluminum Tac-Sol barrels that would be very light.

Re: AR-7 / Henry Survival Rifle Threaded Barrel?
What is the diameter of those bull barrels? If it's large enough, you could make an integral suppressor. Just backbore it and add a monocore.

Re: AR-7 / Henry Survival Rifle Threaded Barrel?
someone told me that Gemtech use to make an internal suppressed barrel for the AR-7, I can't confirm that but that is what I was told in my adventure of trying to find a threaded barrel.
Re: AR-7 / Henry Survival Rifle Threaded Barrel?
I realize that I'm reviving an old thread here but.........
I just got one of these from my dad yesterday at our family Christmas celebration and my FIRST thought when I opened it and put it together was of course.....SILENCER (I'm hooked and my first one hasn't been approved yet)!!!! Have any of you guys actually gotten or used the item that Hi-Desert Dog offers for this rifle? How did it perform? Did the threaded barrel fit into the stock?
I emailed them to as about availability since the site shows that it is currently unavailable.
Thoughts, comments, concerns?
Merry Christmas,
Jay

Been there, done that, and that thing is the most jam-o-matic piece of s--t I have ever had the displeasure to own, with the exception of the Jennings. Except repair parts for the Jennings are far more plentiful.
That being said it was awesome silenced, if you don't mind it being a straight pull bolt action.
Oh, and the scope couldn't hold zero a damn, so I had to put a red dot on it.

Well f%$k me sideways......that is NOT what I wanted to hear.....but I guess I'll have to get a threaded barrel for it anyways.....it was a gift from my dad so I won't ever part with it and since I didn't pay for it I guess buying the threaded barrel won't hurt too bad. If hi-desertdog gets more barrels in stock I'll post my reviews. Hopefully yours was just a lemon??? I'm trying to keep my spirits up here.LavaRed wrote:Been there, done that, and that thing is the most jam-o-matic piece of s--t I have ever had the displeasure to own, with the exception of the Jennings. Not trying to discourage you there mate. By all means have fun with it. I have had fun with mine. Re: AR-7 / Henry Survival Rifle Threaded Barrel?
Well, thanks for the info anyhow. I contacted hi-desertdog about the threaded barrel they have listed on their site and they told me it wouldn't fit mine. Where did you get your threaded barrel?
I'm ok with it being an unintentional bolt action if that's the worst that happens after putting a can on it. I love any and all 22 rifles/pistols....always have. Just cause I'm too cheap to spend a ton of cash on ammo for other guns I guess. I've been hooked on them since I started shooting/hunting 18 years ago.
Any info on where you were able to get your barrel or have it threaded would be great.

Re: AR-7 / Henry Survival Rifle Threaded Barrel?
I was fortunate enough to acquire the bull barrel, strut and pistol grip kit on ebay. I also acquired a thick blank rail on ebay. I then took it all to my local machinist, who drilled and tapped the barrel and modified the rail to fit, and threaded it 3/8"x 24 TPI. The threads are internal and there is also a target crown inside.OJB4 wrote:Well, thanks for the info anyhow. All the info is greatly appreciated.....I'll see what I can dig up and pick a company to do some thread jobs for me. I'm new to this game and haven't sent off anything to be threaded yet. So far everything that I have threaded is a 22 and all came from the manufacturer that way....nothing custom....YET!!!!

Re: AR-7 / Henry Survival Rifle Threaded Barrel?
I've had a Charter Arms AR7 since the 70's, and it's really reliable. It's no target rifle, but I've killed a ton of squirrels with it.LavaRed wrote:Been there, done that, and that thing is the most jam-o-matic piece of s--t I have ever had the displeasure to own, with the exception of the Jennings. Only thing I hate about it is mag capacity, and no extra storage in the stock.

Re: AR-7 / Henry Survival Rifle Threaded Barrel?
That is a big misconception and simply not true. I have a Henry AR7 that I bought a couple years ago and I have thousands of rounds through it using all sorts of bulk ammo and never once have I had a malfunction of any kind. Which is pretty amazing for a 22. Henry redid the whole gun a few years ago and the newer models have a modern polymer stock, orange blade sight, orange inside of the stock, integrated weaver rail, and will hold a total of 3 factory mags in the stock. They are terrific guns, especially for the price.LavaRed wrote:Been there, done that, and that thing is the most jam-o-matic piece of s--t I have ever had the displeasure to own, with the exception of the Jennings. Anyhow, I stumbled upon this thread because I too am looking into making this thing a hush puppy. What I am wondering is if I can get someone to thread the stock barrel. Maybe thread the plastic or glue on metal thread adapter. The stock barrel is great. It's actually pretty darn accurate and I like how light it is.
It's a shame no one makes a hicap mag for it. Even if you can find the discontinued Ramline mags or the 15rd mags, they apparently do not work with the Henry new model - the one that actually works
Re: AR-7 / Henry Survival Rifle Threaded Barrel?
I too have a new Henry and find it to be a very reliable gun. I did have a break in period where I had some malfunctions for the first two mags, but after that I have had no issues at all. Love to get a threaded barrel for it too if anyone runs across one that will work for it.
Also a little curious about what is different about it versus the other ones that make other parts not fit with it...

Re: AR-7 / Henry Survival Rifle Threaded Barrel?
I've found so far that mine has been reliable as well. No jams, misfires, etc. But still haven't had any luck finding a threaded barrel for it. I haven't taken it to anybody who does thread jobs though to get their opinion on the matter. If y'all find anybody that can do something with the factory barrel please let me know. Either way it's still a fun gun in my book.

Re: AR-7 / Henry Survival Rifle Threaded Barrel?
i wanted to maintain the ability to store the disassembled firearm parts in
the stock, as designed. so i opted to forgo the bull barrel and thread the
OE tapered barrel. a threaded, step-up adapter for common 12-28 size
was made.
the magazine's QC is poor and requires a little tweaking to allow reliable
feeding. once resolved, the function can be pretty decent.
overall, it's still a bit like putting lipstick on a pig. still fun to shoot

Who did the thread job on your original barrel? Would you have a pic of it that you don't mind sharing? Thanks!raymond- wrote:i wanted to maintain the ability to store the disassembled firearm parts in

Re: AR-7 / Henry Survival Rifle Threaded Barrel?
sure, i'll try to get a photo. there were different barrel designs offered as OE. mine
is steel (not alum). the tapered barrel has a small enough OD that cutting 1/2-28
threads would not be wise. so a step up adapter method was used.
C2 is a local guy but I won't identify him because he also is a public service employee
with rank. some NFA afficiandos are familiar with whom I speak. he used to be a
machinist, then dabbled in NFA interest on the side and working a City job.
that said, he's aware of how to properly thread (align with bore center), proper shoulder
alignment etc, so I was very comfortable with his work. he also has done other
enhancements on my gear.
hmm, i know your next question may be to inquire the barrel thread size. I don't recall
and I just tried to measure it using my standard metric and inch gauges and it doesn't
fit any of them. you can see that it is relatively fine.
(got the camera out and took pics just now)
p.s. i considered having my Stinger pen gun threaded also but hadn't gotten around it it yet.
the AR barrels are still relatively easy to find/purchase/replace. but with the Stinger, it's not
as easy so I may just drop this idea

Re: AR-7 / Henry Survival Rifle Threaded Barrel?
Thanks for the pics.....definitely not the same barrel as I have (mine is the alum wrapped in teflon or something if I remember correctly).....doesn't look like mine would be an easy project so I've decided to abandon the idea. I guess I don't have to thread EVERYTHING I own. I can let one gun stay in original condition.....hahaha

I'm breaking piggy bank to have this as my non-self defense camping gun. Will suppress with my Silencerco Octane 45 HD.
