Good length for a 22 LR host barrel??

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

Good length for a 22 LR host barrel??

Post by eastern_hunter »

Guys,

Am having a new barrel for an old High Standard M106 Military Citation threaded for a suppressor. Will not touch the original.

What is a good length for use with standard velocity ammo for suppressor use. Is currently 5 1/4" from inset crown to breech face.

Thanks!

I realize you are specifying std vel, but 4.5" will keep most bulk pack 22LR subsonic and give you more choices in ammo.

Please explain. If I read this right. The standard .22 bulkpack in HV, but in a 4.5" barrel it will stay subsonic?

I had to go to 4" I paid to cut and rethread to 4" Even with 4" Federal bulkpack is close to transonic.

I Vote for 4" and use Dynapoint by Winchester. (100-150 fps slower than Federal)

I had chronographed a bunch of rimfire ammo on a bunch of different barrel lengths..4 inches seemed to be the way to go. Someone here compiled it into a really nice chart. Can't seem to find it.

3" will keep ALL .22LR subsonic. You can still kill a possum with it too. Trust me.

My P22 has a 3.4" bbl. it is quiet with everything I have fed it. So when I got my Buckmark done. It too was shortened to 3.5".
Works wonderful.

I agree. I used the P-22 as a guide. I compromised and went 4" and it seems to be the longest but still works. 5" is absolutely to long for subsonic. Even 4" will go supersonic with "super speed" 40 gr Winchester

My 3" 22/45 keeps Federal bulk a 940FPS.
