will longer barrels suppress

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

will longer barrels suppress

better than short ones. i saw on one of the other forums an 8" barrel on a black out was around 130 db.if this had been a 16''barrel would it have better readings.also does the 300 whisper do better suppressed than the blk.

Longer the barrel the better it will suppress as there is less pressure at the muzzle so there is less work for the suppressor to do. Also the longer the barrel the more gunpowder that burns which reduces the blast as well.

In my experience they both suppress equally.

Beyond a certain length the real challenge is keeping the round itself subsonic without hand loading.

Technically this is not a "suppression" issue but it is related to the overall quality of the suppression "experience".

The longer the barrel the quieter the report, works unsuppressed the same way.

Same 223 Remington caliber, same silencer (YHM PHANTOM). Both guns launching out of a quiet action.
Either gun shooting @ 2750 fps or faster. Out of the rifle, I can hear the dirt kick up at 100 yards, so it's much quieter.

I don't have sound equipment to verify this, however.
