Yeah, the IDF. According to the various sources attached to that picture (which I've seen in many places) they were using suppressed 10/22s as a sort of quasi-less-than-lethal deterrent.

Were is the operative word I think.
I believe they have discontinued the practice after learning much to their apparent surprise if you miss the kneecap and cut the femoral artery in a guys leg he will bleed to death rather quickly.
ETA: A quick search seems to indicate using this weapon for "less-than-lethal" crowd control has not been banned everywhere.
EATA: No, it's not cool for a government to use this kind of force on its own citizens.

Looking like fun.

I doubt they manufactured that with crowd control in mind.
Re: Suppressed 10/22 used in military..pic
It looks like a MAC (Military Armament Corporation) conversion .
Re: Suppressed 10/22 used in military..pic
I remember reading that the IDF used this setup with 60 grain subsonics to disrupt the Palistinian protesters as they got more violent. You can almost here them saying "Hey, Abdul, why don't you want to throw rocks at the Jews anymore?". I wonder.

There was a predecessor to using .22 rifle in combat: In WW II the magnificentWyatt9k wrote:Pretty neat.

" A few M65 .22lr trainers were pulled and sent to the USMC armorers.
There they were modified to take Maxim suppressors.
These were shipped to the dumps to kill the rats ( ergo , it's nick-name).
Some front liners found out about them , and decided it did not matter
if the rats were two or four legged . They took some and thier (sic) ammo on patrols."

The M65 is still a fun rifle to shoot, feels like a Garand, but does not slam
old worn out shoulders like the .303 Enfield Sniper.
Re: Suppressed 10/22 used in military..pic
Yep due to the performance of their reduction from suppressor. Easily to end up with headshot within 50-100 yards by training shooter.

I thought they called them a "hushpuppy" to help eliminate dogs that would signal their prescience?
Re: Suppressed 10/22 used in military..pic
We did that a lot in Iraq because the dogs would always start going crazy when we were coming in on foot to conduct a raid or something of that nature. We employed silenced Sterlings we had captured though, and did it in the daytime prior to moving into an area. Still way too loud to be stealthy at night since we only had supersonic 9mm ammo available.Jmark wrote:I thought they called them a "hushpuppy" to help eliminate dogs that would signal their prescience?

Seeing this pic a few years ago led me to make an updated version of it.
50 yard, 5 shot group. Not bad considering it has a 4.5 inch barrel.

I'm not a big fan of the 10-22. BUT, that is one sweet piece. Very nice.Lehman wrote:

That group out of a 4.5 inch barrel is impressive.
That looks like something I would want to build. Could you give the specs on the rifle and what ammo are you using?

tagging this for updates. just changed my mind about posting a wts for that bell & carlson stock I have in the corner of the shop.
stuff like this really makes me wish ruger would just sell unbarreled 10/22 receivers. i can't think of one i have purchased in the last few years that kept the original stock or barrel...

Re: Suppressed 10/22 used in military..pic
yes, i've seen them but my understanding is that the purchase price of $130 is for a stripped receiver only with no bolt assembly or fire control parts. problem is that by the time you add those in, your costs is likely going to be well over the $187 dealer cost for a basic ruger carbine. was thinking it would be nice if ruger would just take a basic carbine, keep the barrel and stock and pass those (likely very modest) savings on to us but until then i'll just add to my collection of take-off barrels and cheap birch stocksDesertRat wrote:How about this?jaredr wrote: stuff like this really makes me wish ruger would just sell unbarreled 10/22 receivers.

Re: Suppressed 10/22 used in military..pic
I've seen them marketed in the US for wildlife control as well as turning out street lights quickly in an area where a tactical team needed it.
I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, I won't be laid a hand upon. I don't do these things to other people and I require the same from them.
