Why did AAC drop the slight over the barrel style mount when they came out with the 51T?
I wouldn't mind shaving a 1/2" off the 16" barrel I have with one of those like I used too with my old M4-2000 18T.

Re: SOPMOD style 51T?
The only part from YHM was that AAC licensed the phantom flash hider on the end. The "mount" part is still all AAC and is their 18t mount. They didn't license the mount, just the flash hider. The "YHM" stamp was for licensing reasons. The mount above is just an AAC 18t mount that was of limited production.delta9mda wrote:not sure of your question but that is a yhm mount that aac was using/ licensing.
AAC used to have an A1/A2 style flash hider for their M4-2000's, they licensed the phantom from YHM to get better flash reduction, then they came out with the BLACKOUT flash hider, etc.
In the case above, you can also mount a KAC 5.56 silencer as well.
The mount in question is a deep socket. The barrel threads are right near the flash hider portion, so it sits back over the barrel .5" or more. This reduces the OAL of the rifle + silencer.
Re: SOPMOD style 51T?
The problem is the deep socket hiders (many) weren't long enough to be pinned on 14.5's- no to mention issues with different barrel profiles and the socket sizes. It's easier, more economical to make end mount mounts with a plain rear shoulder.
Although, as I say that, I' have seen a good number of new 90T and 51T hiders that have a large rear socket... they only go back over the barrel maybe 1/8-1/4" though.

On another note, AAC did at one time make a "SOPMOD"-style mount that didn't use the YHM-style hider:

Re: SOPMOD style 51T?
We have mounts now with slight over-the barrel designs.
The downside to them is that they only look good on a certain range of barrel diameters.

Re: SOPMOD style 51T?
The YHM on the mount lowered the unit cost to AAC... YHM cut AAC a better price for letting them put their Logo on the mounts.chrismartin wrote:delta9mda wrote:The "YHM" stamp was for licensing reasons.
