Question concerning suppressor wipes
I was wondering, in the thompson machine posiedon 9mm suppressor for example, there is a wipe right in front of the muzzle and one on the end. When shot why doesnt this do anything to the firearm as far as bulged barrel or something catastrophic because there is something blocking the muzzle and you'd think the pressure would blow something up?
Re: Question concerning suppressor wipes
For the same reason duct tape over the end of the muzzle will not cause a catastrophic failure.

Wipes cause accuracy to suffer. Wipes went out with disco music..or at least I hoped they had.
Re: Question concerning suppressor wipes
Wipes as a rule aren't used....except in a specialty suppressor like the posiedon. The reason is to contain the medium, and they do help to reduce the sound level in a suppressor that is so small. Thought you would have known that John.

Re: Question concerning suppressor wipes
Thompson stopped utilizing the front wipe. This made me sad. I use aluminum foil to seal the front end since they no longer seal that. It blows out easily with no residue.
NFA shooters blow their load with only one pull of the trigger.
Re: Question concerning suppressor wipes
For baffle strikes IIRC. For some reason I thought they just reduced the recommended thickness of the front wipe, maybe I missed the thread where they did away with it all together.David Hineline wrote:Thompson stopped utilizing the front wipe. This made me sad. ...

Re: Question concerning suppressor wipes
If you sent in your 1st gen. core for the upgrade, they took the front wipe retaining ring. Originally they had said to use thinner wipes in front. I guess people didn't listen. I'm sad because I liked the front wipe. Oh well.doubloon wrote:For baffle strikes IIRC. You can't ever have too much KFC!
Re: Question concerning suppressor wipes
They stopped using the BACK wipe not the front. I think that was a smart thing on there part due to the bullet closest to the muzzle COULD be deflected and hit the end cap or the baffles even in such a short can. I then you might have somebody use flat nose bullets or HP's and that could be damaging to the suppressor. On mine it did not degrade the performance as I could tell the back wipe was more there to keep the ablative in the can in case it was carried. And it is a specialized can for ultra small package requirements.
Re: Question concerning suppressor wipes
The took mine as well! I would have preferred to keep the option of it at the very least. Oh well. I do like the poseidon for those first few shots though. Wipes were easy to make as well.
Stupid, stupid NFA items.
