TEXAS PASSED

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

When the new hunting regs booklet comes out in August it will be in there. The changes don't go into effect until Sept.1 when the new license period starts.

This cannot help but be good news for all of us in the NFA business. As the idea catches hold, it will make shooters less obvious to the anti's, add more places to hunt, and save a lot of hearing.

Now if the FEDs would de-NFA suppressors, wonder what would happen? My guess is that if suppressor use becomes widespread, you will see "Quiet Hunting Only" or "Suppressors Required on This Lease!" signs popping up.

The Law of Unintended Consequences is a bitch. But I am going to take advantage of this opportunuty and ride it far as I can.

I'm not sure even if suppressors were "de-NFA"d it would be a huge windfall. Right now in Texas suppressors are prohibited and your federal papers are defense against prosecution. Besides that, the majority of hunters out there have rifles with skinny tapered barrels and they're probably not interested in replacing the gun just to buy a suppressor.

But it sure is welcome change for those of us who already have threaded barrels and suppressors.

It would be interesting to see something happen in the shotgun market. If somebody could develop an inexpensive and easy to install aftermarket suppression kit for the most popular models they might be able to wring a little cash out of it. Maybe a drop in integral barrel.

About half way down the page.

I can't do a strike through font on this lame forum so the modification is that the text in RED below is deleted.
(E)[(D)]It is unlawful to hunt alligators, game animals, or game birds with a fully automatic firearm [or any firearm equipped with a silencer or sound-suppressing device].
