Fun with NFA video

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

Fun with NFA video

Post by Fireman1291 »

What a fun afternoon. I was going to build a SBR 9mm AR15 and use my tirant9 on it. But after shooting my buddies I think I'll go for my holygrail........... I'm going to get a HK MK23 and Tirant45 to round off my can collection. I hear from multiple sources that the MK23 is quieter suppressed than the HK USP45T as it has a longer barrel. We will see.....:)

nice video, thx for posting. think you're making the right call foregoing the suppressed 9mm SBR. i've been pretty underwhelmed with mine regarding suppression levels. i'm running an H2 buffer shooting subsonic 115gr ammo and i've got to run it wet in order to make it marginally hearing safe (thompson isis monocore).

Very cool, that video further confirmed that I have to get an M11 smg. I know that you can switch uppers like your .22 and 9mm, but I've seen a couple reasonably priced .380 M11s for sale. Are all M11 lowers the same and all M11 uppers work with it or is there a specific lower to get? I am only wanting a 9mm upper, but will most likely add a .22 conversion later.

Nice video. Damn automatic weapons kick ass! Just put an M11 on the "To Buy" list. What does one of those go for? Where would I even look for automatics? I'm brand new to this. About to send off my first form 4's. Four of them to start with.
I've gotta stop this habit.

If you want a 22 conversion, you will need (right now) an M11/9. There are conversions out there for a couple other variations, but they are 1) scarce 2) not reliable 3) all of the above.

The 380 M11s right now you can shoot 380 (stock) or buy a 9mm conversion upper for it, that's it. Different uppers for the M11/9, will not work from one to the other.

There is definitely a possibility that another 22 conversion could come out for the AMP11 upper, but nothing yet, so don't bank on it.

So at this point, get an M11/9.

Nice video. Do your neighbors get on your ass for shooting in your yard...being how close they are to you?

Thanks for the vid. :D

I notice my 9mm AR is more loud but still very fun and cheap to load for and parts.

Why no 300 blackout in the vid? They kick asses! and more power factor options.

No they shoot with me and its legal to shoot on your property in FL. The law is REAL lax. No city or unincorporated restrictions, no distance from a occupied dwelling, etc. As long as you shoot safely and not over a public road or over or at a home you are GTG. Its a great state....the sad part is most don't even know the law. I love being 100% acting within the law and enjoying shooting in my own yard and knowing theres not a damn thing anyone can do about it. I've asked officers if they could use the noise ordinance but they said unless they showup and the person that called lives so close that their ears would hurt then no. They said get calls all the time from people that bitch about shooting and then they get there and its an echo from shooting miles away. The officer I was asking laughed and said "dont you have a million silencers? You don't have to worry about noise"

That's good to hear. Too bad there are a lot of other states with such fucked up gun laws...

Why is the 9mm AR so loud? Is it because it's straight blowback? Were you using subsonic ammunition?

Ammo was subsonic. Did you have annotations turned on when you watched? I explain the echo is from the sound echoing off the tree line and back to the wall and fence of my house. That and the woods are full of water(swamp) and that amplifies the report.

that and the fact that 9mm AR is just disappointingly loud. my understanding is that yes, it is because it is a straight blowback so you have a lot of noise coming out of the ejection port. I'm running an H2 buffer in mine and it is still very loud, even with underpowered subsonic ammunition. the same round (more or less - 158gr .38 special vs. 147 gr 9mm, both doing about 800 fps, both about 3 gr of titegroup) is much quieter through my levergun. i could spend some more time working with different buffer spring rates and an even heavier buffer, but it's not worth the effort at that point.

9mm AR is in the middle of the three - 5" barrel, thompson machine ISIS. looks cool, unusably loud with full power ammunition, tolerable with mouse-fart subsonic.

Your 9mm AR should be way more than "tolerable" with subs. Your H2 buffer is minimum and short. No need to spend more money, take 6-7 quarters and tape them together then put them in the back of the buffer tube then replace spring and buffer, rack the gun with mag to see if the bolt holds open, leave a little extra play.

Now you have less chance of breaking bolt stops from boltslamming forward and your spring now stiffer. Once you test make a spacer the size of the quarters to save weight. (or buy a 9mm buffer which longer and heavier  )

Never shoot the ISIS so don't know but the AR should be louder than the pistols but still pleasant even indoors.

My 25 cents.
