CCI Quiet-22

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

CCI Quiet-22

Post by Historian »

Buddy just emailed me some info on the CCI Quiet he is now using.
Purportedly its DB rating is "68 at the ear' as opposed to around
135 DB for SV CCI. Sure!

Call me skeptical but I have not run across this ammo before. Is it new, old, etc. ?

Anyone measure it for real and shot it through a can next to a real meter?

Like the National Enquirer, I have an Enquiring Mind ... and want to know. :)

The 68db rating is bull. To me it sounds the same as a 22 CB both unsuppressed and suppressed. They do seem much more consistent than CBs though and they are 22 LR instead of just a 22 Long so they feed better in my magazines.

If someone wants to send some, I will meter it publicly. 68dB is bogus. Hammer fall on a 10/22 is over 100dB.

The hammer on a 10/22 is 100db?? That is very surprising to me. I need to research sound levels more.

Thanks, guys. I knew that this site would apply the
ice water enema of reality to this issue.

Guess if they tested the round by firing it in a vacuum or out side the Earth's
atmosphere they could claim a zero DB rating. :)

I agree this sounds weird. You mean the sound of the bolt slamming home? Dry firing a 22 rifle is a lot quieter than firing my air rifle, and Ive seen a pyramyd air video that showed a similar rifle meter at 98.

As far as I know, the Quiet 22 stuff was released in May. It is noticeably quieter than CCI sub sonics, but won't cycle in my rifle. Here's a video I made over the weekend.

Nicely done. Thanks.

Next cool day I shall be taking out my .22 rifle, the H&R M65 Reising.
It will be interesting to see what CCI SV does through it. It is as
heavy as a Springfield or Garand.

Unfortunately when I got it in 1965 it did not have the original Redfield
Sight but a scope. The seller kept the scope and put a Lyman on it. In the one-in-a-thousand chance
anyone has a pointer to an original Redfield I would be indebted.

For historical information on this rifle used in the Pacific by Marines -"The Rat Rifle":

Given the design of the M65 how would our experts here think the armourer threaded the barrel without
a difficult removal. Dies?

Ive shot a couple of bricks of the quiet 22 so far and i love them so far. Ive been running them through a savage fv-sr with a can and the bullet impacting the target is much louder then the gun going off. It is also a very fun round it isfairly accurate and its fun to watch the bullet through the scope

I picked up a couple of boxes of these the other day and we ran some through my SOT's integral bolt gun. Man they sound good!!! I just got my FV-SR and haven't ran them through it suppressed yet. It's worth picking up a couple of boxes if you run across them.

I have several boxes of this new CCI ammo its very quiet but it also seems to be reduced FPS not a very good hunting load pretty weak compared to the CCI subsonic seg load.

I was not impressed. Shot 1 round in my back yard and figured it would be quiet. Not. No I did not have the can on the pistol but it was loud enough that I figured if I shot enough the cops would come looking. Shot some at the range with my FVSR and could not even get on the target at 100 yds. Bullet drop was way too low for me. Will just stick with regular CCI subsonic.

"Quiet-22 allows for safe shooting enjoyment without hearing protection"

It sounds like something to bring along to make your friends that don't have silencers use so you don't have to wear plugs.

I was out buying a set of scope rings today, and seen the quiet CCI's. They only had the boxes of 50, and I bought 10 boxes.

Wont eject in my hardly shot 10/22, have yet to try them in my old broke in 10/22. I'd almost say they were hollywood quiet thru a Mite, but I had to eject each one by hand.
Got a new CMMG 6.5" upper today, and they wont work in it either.

Looks like I need to get a bolt action.

Bought 6 boxes to try from my mp1522 and kodiak tl. Just enough to kick out spent brass and load another from mag but does not reset FCG. So i have to do everything manual everyother round.

It has been said but they are very quiet. Louder hitting the target than when firing bthey would not cycle the action of mynRugern22/45 MKIII. These would be awesome in a Ruger 96/22 lever gun.

I got a box to try. Louder than Super Colibri in a 16" CZ bolt, but it's still quiet enough to shoot without ear pro. It also feeds perfectly while Super Colibri will often have a minor feed issue.
