Behold! The Sound of Silence :)

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

Behold! The Sound of Silence :)

Post by LavaRed »

Nothing too fancy. Just my recently completed AR-7 Tactical. 3 supersonic and 5 standard velocity rounds for sound comparison. I managed to acquire a very limited amount of standard velocity rounds here. Target was glass bottles 100 yards distant.
Feedback is, as always, appreciated:

Thanks. I forgot to add the background sound is a WWII-era CAT D4, still running. Ammunition used was Concorde 36gr.HP HV, and Eley Standard Velocity.
As you can hear, the sound level of shooting the Eley is nearly the same as cycling the action. From the shooter position, all I could hear was the click of the hammer and the action, and the thump of impact downrange. I think it can be heard in the video too.

So basically the full report of the bullet has been eliminated at the ear.

Oh, true! It's the same G5 Titanium core - Carbon Fiber Tube monocore .22LR suppressor that I've been using on my Beretta 70 pistol for the last 2 years. Over 15k rounds through it and still going strong. It's called Apollo for the record, and naturally it's of my own design. I just had the rifle internally threaded for it because it was better to use a proven design than to have to build an all-new suppressor for the rifle. As the video shows, it was a good match for the rifle.
Thanks!

Cool vid! When I made my f1 can, I used a high velocity ammo and thought I made a turd. Then I tried some subsonic and found otherwise. supersonic bullet noise is pretty dang loud.
Neat setup there. Thanks for the vid. 8)

Lava, thanks for inviting us along.

As usual your results speak for themselves.

What power scope is on your piece?

Coincidentally, yesterday I mounted a 4X on my M65
Reising. First time in 45 years. Fun time leveling the scope
and mounts. It will fun for bench resting but from a weight
standpoint I would prefer carrying your creation.

Best.

As always Lava, the first 12 seconds are relevant.

If it doesn't splatter, shatter, burst or explode, it's not worth shooting.

Thanks :) .

The scope is a very cheap Tasco 3-9x40IR. It never worked well on centerfire rifles, so I put it on this not knowing if it would be worth it or not. Turns out it did work well enough for plinking, so it's staying on there. The QD rings were a disappoitnment tho. They do not retain zero at all, so I had to loctite them into place and that was that.
One thing this little rifle is not anymore is light. With the heavy barrel and the scope, weight jumped up to about 5 lbs. But the fact that it makes less noise than an air rfle makes it worth the while. :)
