I live in a silencer legal state and I'm going hunting in another silencer legal state. Per BATF FAQ, I can ship guns, care of my hunting buddy, to myself. http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/unlicen ... additional
Can I ship my can to my hunting buddy like a firearm?
I would just declare it in my checked baggage, but I'm flying out of a state where silencers are not allowed. I know I'm "traveling through", but I don't want to miss my flight/entire hunt/gear while I explain my good intensions to LEO.

I believe you can ship to a trustee in another state using a 5320.20 so I don't see why you can't ship it to yourself.

I don't believe it would be wise to ship it to your buddy, even "in care of" ... or if you did it wouldn't be wise to talk about it.

If I were going to attempt such a thing I would ship it to myself, signature required with a specified delivery date of the first or second day after I arrived. That way it's either in transit or my possession and never just laying around in a secure cardboard tube.

You can ship it to yourself only if you are on the other end to receive it. The "care of" could be construed as a illegal transfer in the eyes of the BATFE.

So ship it the day before you fly so you are present to sign for it at whatever address you will be at.

Remember its gotta go either FedEx or UPS. You can't use USPS for this.

Do the same on the flip side.

I would ship them to myself at the friends address or hold for pickup at shipping terminal, padlock the case and maintain control of the key so that no one on the end or durring transport has access to the items.

Did the USPS change their definition of a firearm to include silencers?

It has always been that way, they just clarified it to help the people that refuse to accept that the .gov considers silencers a "firearm".
