Spectre host?

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

Spectre host?

Post by wmdaniel70 »

I have a Ruger 22/45 with threaded barrel that I have been using my SS Sparrow on. I have a Spectre 2 in the ATF black hole. How do you guys feel about the Sig Mosquito as a host for these suppressors? As always, Thanks!!

Frankly not impressed with the Mosquito.

Mine shoots fine w CCI SV ammo when suppressed. Slide release angle is a bit too high and can bite into the thumb when the piece is held by a smaller hand.

The SIG 22 LR conversion kit with threaded barrel for the 228/229 is a much nicer solution if you have an existing SIG pistol. Especially if the pistol is to be used for practice ... as the lower is the real thing!

Others have noted some problems with the Mosquito.

Step #1: Buy a Sig Sauer P226 ... it's what the navy seals use
Step #2: Go to the Sig Sauer website and buy the .22LR conversion upper (w/ threaded bbl).

That's what I did and I'm loving it.

You should also consider the gsg 1911-22 it is a fun little host to play with.

I've heard hit or miss things about the Sig Mosquito but I have a Sig 226 S4 with a 22lr conversion kit and it runs like a top with both my SS Sparrow and Spectre.

I also have a GSG 1911 and would highly recommend it as well. It's the quietest 22 host I've heard so far.

Avoid the Mosquito! Picky ,seen one blow up twice too!

If going 226-229 22LR it MUCH cheaper to buy the gun as a 22 then buy the 9mm upper w/night sights from Sig. (they sold them dirt cheap last year or so) Call Sig if thinking this.

GSG 1911 don't last so more a toy like the P22. Here a good price though. http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.ph ... -wdgp.html

Friends don't let friends buy Mosquitos ... had one and the trigger sucked so I sold it at a gun show.

This on the other hand is smooth as silk.

Friends don't let friends buy guns made with zinc.

Stay with the steel or aluminum. Plastic is better than zinc.
If it doesn't splatter, shatter, burst or explode, it's not worth shooting.

What are the threads on the Sig conversion barrel?

Most Sig factory threads are Metric, hence the question. Are the threads on the conversion barrel metric or U.S.?

I thought the factory threaded kits were the same as the Mosquito barrel. M9x0.75, I could be wrong.

My barrel was threaded and adapted by HiDesertDog before Sig was offering threaded barrels for the 22lr kits. I've never disassembled it so I don't know the pitch under the adapter.

I too am waiting on my Spectre II but have a S&W M&P ready for it. It is a very nice platform despite not having shot it supressed yet.

The conversion kits are threaded the same as the Mosquito (metric). All you need is a 1/2x28 adapter for them. Any 1/2x28 adapter made for the Mosquito WILL work on the conversion kits.

Yes. I know it's marketing. However, if the platform is reliable enough to be used by the Seals (as many others are) then it's good enough for me.

The fact that you can swap out the slide and change from .22LR to 357sig, 9mm and 40 cal is the #1 selling point in my humble opinion.

4 calibers while training on 1 platform, what could be better? Name another pistol that can do that.

Thank you for correcting me.

My official recommendation is either the Sig Sauer P226 or P229.

Hard to go wrong with either.
